This is a list of funicular railways, organised by place within country and continent. The funiculars range from short urban lines to significant multi-section mountain railways.

Note that it is sometimes hard to draw a line between a funicular railway and an incline elevator.

  • Playa del Rey (1901-1909) Two cars ran in a counter balance configuration from a Los Angeles Pacific Railway stop at the base of the Westchester cliffs to a hotel at the top of the bluff. Legend has it that the two cars were named 'Alphonse' and 'Gaston'.
