Ramsay street neighbours tour 2013

Ramsay Street is the fictional cul-de-sac in which the characters of the Australian soap opera Neighbours live. The street is set in the equally fictional Melbourne suburb of Erinsborough. Neighbours storylines primarily centre on the residents of the Street, which was named after the grandfather of original character Max Ramsay (Francis Bell). A storyline within the show saw the name of the street nearly changed to Ramsbottom Street. Harold Bishop (Ian Smith) led a protest against it and won.

Pin Oak Court, in Vermont South (at 37°51′31″S 145°10′19″E), is the real cul-de-sac that doubles for Ramsay Street. All of the houses featured in the show are real and the residents allow Neighbours to shoot external scenes in their front and back gardens. Neighbours has been filmed in Pin Oak Court since the series began in 1985 and it has since become popular with tourists. Tours to the cul-de-sac run throughout the year. The interior scenes are filmed at the Global Television studios in Forest Hill, the adjoining suburb in which Pin Oak Court is located.

No. 22

When Neighbours first began, Number 22 was initially empty. In 1986, it was rented out by Clive Gibbons (Geoff Paine), Clive rented the house from an unseen landlord. During his time there, Clive invited Daphne Lawrence (Elaine Smith), Zoe Davis (Ally Fowler) and Mike Young (Guy Pearce) to move in with him. Clive later began a relationship with Susan Cole (Gloria Ajenstat) and he invited her to move in. Susan left Ramsay Street and Clive moved into a flat behind his surgery. Following Clive's departure the house was bought by Paul Robinson (Stefan Dennis) for the Daniels Corporation, who wanted the land to build a supermarket on. The deal fell through and Paul moved in. When he married Gail Lewis (Fiona Corke), the couple lived there as man and wife until they divorced in 1989. Paul then rented the house to twins Caroline (Gillian Blakeney) and Christina Alessi (Gayle Blakeney). Paul later married Christina and they lived in the house with their son, Andrew (Shannon Holmes). In 1992, Caroline, Christina, Paul and Andrew left. The house was then rented out to Benito (George Spartels) and Cathy Alessi (Elspeth Ballantyne), who moved in with their sons, Marco (Felice Arena) and Rick (Dan Falzon). Benito and Cathy left in 1993 and Marco and Rick moved out.

Number 22 was left empty for a while, but Paul then rented it to the Lim Family for a month. Paul then sold the house to Cheryl Stark (Caroline Gillmer) and she moved in with her son and daughter, Brett (Brett Blewitt) and Danni (Eliza Szonert). Cheryl, Brett and Danni went to live with Cheryl's partner Lou Carpenter (Tom Oliver) for a short while, before all four moved to Number 22. Cheryl died in 1996 and Brett and Danni moved away. Cheryl's elder son Darren (Todd MacDonald) and Marlene Kratz (Moya O'Sullivan) moved in to help Lou. Marlene left in 1997 and Darren in 1998. Lou's youngest daughter, Louise (Jiordan Anna Tolli), also left when it was revealed that Lou was not her biological father. Lou then began to take in lodgers, including Toadfish Rebecchi (Ryan Moloney), Drew Kirk (Dan Paris) and Darcy Tyler (Mark Raffety).

Drew and his wife Libby (Kym Valentine) rented the house from Lou briefly, following the birth of their son Ben (Noah Sutherland). Following Drew's death, Libby moved back in with her parents and Lou returned. Nina Tucker (Delta Goodrem) and her mother Trixie (Wendy Stapleton) moved in with Lou, but they both left in 2003. Valda Sheergold (Joan Sydney) bought the house when Lou began going through financial troubles. Valda later sold the house back to Paul. Paul kicked Lou out and moved his girlfriend, Isabelle Hoyland (Natalie Bassingthwaighte) in. Paul's daughter Elle (Pippa Black) also moved in and not long after, her brothers, Robert and Cameron (both played by Adam Hunter) moved in until Robert was sent to prison and Cameron died. Isabelle left the street in 2006 and Paul invited Lyn Scully (Janet Andrewartha) to move in, when Lyn was forced to sell her own house. Lyn left Erinsborough for Shelley Bay following her and Paul's brief marriage. Elle discovered that Paul had deceived her and was involved in her break-up with Dylan Timmins (Damien Bodie) and she devised a plan to trick Paul into signing all his assets over to her. Elle took in Ned Parker (Daniel O'Connor) as a lodger and shortly afterwards she let Paul move back in. Ned later moved into Number 26.

Paul asked Rebecca Napier (Jane Hall) and her son, Declan (James Sorensen), to move in. When Paul's affair with Kirsten Gannon (Nikola Dubois) was exposed, Rebecca and Declan moved out. Elle forced Paul to leave for a short while and she later invited Donna Freedman (Margot Robbie) to move in. Elle invited her boyfriend, Lucas Fitzgerald (Scott Major) to move with her. Rebecca, Declan and his daughter India were forced to move out of Number 26 and they moved back into Number 22. Elle sold the house back to Paul to ease her financial troubles. Elle departed for a job and Paul's youngest son, Andrew, returned to Erinsborough and moved in. Donna moves out to live with her husband. Rebecca, Declan and India move out after Rebecca leaves Paul. Sophie Ramsay (Kaiya Jones) and her sister, Kate (Ashleigh Brewer), move in during 2011 and 2012 respectively. The following year, Andrew and Sophie leave Erinsborough, while Kate and Paul move out.

Number 24 was one of the three original houses featured in Ramsay Street and has been associated with the Ramsay family since the show began. Max and Maria's marriage ended and Maria left, with Danny following not long after. Max's sister Madge (Anne Charleston) moved in and they each purchased a half of the house. When Harold reappeared, he and Madge reunited and bought the property from Marlene. They fostered teenagers Paul McClain (Jansen Spencer) and Tad Reeves (Jonathon Dutton). In 2001, Madge died of cancer and by 2002 both Paul and Tad had left. Hairdresser Gino Esposito (Shane McNamara) briefly moved in with Harold as did teenager Saxon Garvey (Troy Lovett). Harold's granddaughter Sky Mangel (Stephanie McIntosh) moved back to Ramsay Street to live with Harold in 2003. She was soon joined by Harold's son, David (Kevin Harrington), his wife Liljana (Marcella Russo) and their daughter Serena (Lara Sacher). Lou later moved in too. David, Liljana and Serena perished in a plane crash and in 2006, Sky gave birth to a daughter, Kerry Mangel (Claudine Henningsen). Carmella Cammeniti (Natalie Blair) moved in for a time and Lou's daughter Lolly also moved in. Lolly left after six months and Sky and Kerry left soon after. Harold left Erinsborough and rented the house to Marco Silvani (Jesse Rosenfeld) and Carmella. Sienna Cammeniti (Erin McNaught), Carmella's cousin, moved in briefly, but left after a few weeks to go to Italy. Marco died in July 2008 and Carmella left the street. Harold then gave the house to the Salvation Army before he departed. Cassandra Freedman (Tottie Goldsmith) and her children, Simon (Mauricio Merino Jr) and Tegan (Chelsea Jones), were the first family to move in at the start of 2009. Simon and Tegan later left the street to live with their grandmother and Cassandra was driven out of the street by Elle Robinson.

When Elle decides to confront her claustrophobia, she and Lucas Fitzgerald spend a few hours under the house. Lucas discovers a locket with the initials A.G.R. inscribed on it and Elle realises that it belongs to her grandmother, Anne. Lucas later discovers a hidey-hole under the house where a box, belonging to Anne, was hidden. The box contained a key to a bank deposit box, which contained Helen Daniels (Anne Haddy)' will. They discover the existence of a secret Ramsay child, Jill (Perri Cummings). Jill dies and her children, Kate (Ashleigh Brewer), Harry (Will Moore) and Sophie (Kaiya Jones) move into Number 24. Lou moved back into the house in late 2009 after becoming the Ramsay's guardian. Harry departs for Sydney after winning a basketball scholarship. After holding interviews, Kate, Sophie and Lou invite Lucas Fitzgerald to move in. Sophie goes to stay with Paul Robinson, after she falls out with Kate. Kate invites Vanessa Villante (Alin Sumarwata) to move in when she discovers she is pregnant with Lucas' child and living in her car. When the Kapoor family – Ajay (Sachin Joab), Priya (Menik Gooneratne) and Rani (Coco Cherian) – moved into Number 24 in 2012, the set was given a makeover. Gooneratne explained that she decorated it with some of her family photos to "make it feel more like home". The following year, after Priya dies, Ajay and Rani leave for the UK. After a few months of the house being vacant, university student Isaac Woods (Josh Burton) illegally squats in Number 24. Mark Brennan then rents the house and his boss Danni Ferguson (Laura McIntosh) briefly moves in. Paige Smith (Olympia Valance) later takes over the room. Naomi Canning (Morgana O'Reilly) moves in briefly when she falls out with her mother Sheila Canning (Colette Mann). Paige moves out after breaking up with Mark. Jim discovers he has a fifth child, Glen (Richard Huggett), and he is invited to move in. Lucy returns, but moves away to be a model and Glen flees Erinsborough. Todd dies in 1992 and Julie returns with her husband, Philip Martin (Ian Rawlings), his children Debbie (Marnie Reece-Wilmore) and Michael (Troy Beckwith) and their only child Hannah (Rebecca Ritters). They move in for a short time. Jim begins dating Fiona Hartman (Suzanne Dudley) whose daughter Annalise moves in as well. Jim suffers a heart attack and dies in the kitchen in 1993. Jim leaves Helen a life tenancy of the house, so that on her death Paul, Glen, Scott and Lucy would inherit a quarter each.

Helen rents out a room to Wayne Duncan (Jonathan Sammy Lee) and allows Annalise to move back in. Julie comes back after she and Philip briefly separate. Julie dies in 1994 and Philip and the children move in with Helen. Lucy comes back to the house, following Debbie's departure. Philip's girlfriend, Jen Handley (Alyce Platt) later moves in. In 1997, Helen dies in the house and though Jim's will stated that his four remaining children would each get a share of the house, Philip takes over. He begins dating Ruth Wilkinson (Ailsa Piper) and she moves in with him. Ruth's children Lance (Andrew Bibby) and Anne (Brooke Satchwell) also move in. Two years later, Ruth, Philip and Hannah move away and Lance and Anne move to other houses on the street.

Minutes after leaving the street, the Martin's were replaced by the Scully family. Joe Scully (Shane Connor) purchased the house with his wife Lyn (Janet Andrewartha). They move in with their three daughters: Stephanie (Carla Bonner), Felicity (Holly Valance) and Michelle (Kate Keltie). The Timmins family are allowed to move back in and Joe leaves soon after. Lyn is forced to sell the house to Loris Timmins (Kate Fitzpatrick) and she moves out. Stingray dies and Dylan leaves the street. Janelle marries Allan Steiger (Joe Clements) and they leave with Bree. Janae stays behind and begins a relationship with Ned Parker, who moves in with her. They are later joined by Ned's son, Mickey Gannon (Fletcher O'Leary).

Ned's brother, Steve Parker (Steve Bastoni) moves in with his wife, Miranda (Nikki Coghill), and their daughter, Bridget (Eloise Mignon). They are later joined by their son, Riley (Sweeney Young). Janae leaves in early 2008 after she splits up with Ned. Steve then buys the house at an auction and they invite Lou to move in with them. Ned and Mickey move to Perth, but Mickey returns to Ramsay Street and moves back in. Miranda's sister, Nicola West (Imogen Bailey) comes to stay, and this causes Riley, with whom she was having an illicit affair, to leave. Nicola is thrown out and she is later admitted to a psychiatric hospital. Rebecca and Declan Napier move in with the Parkers. Bridget became pregnant and gives birth to a daughter, India. Mickey leaves for New York, so he can be with his parents. A week later, Bridget dies and Steve and Miranda depart the street not long after. Lou lives in the house when he returns from New York, but moves out in October 2009. Steph's stepdaughter, Summer Hoyland (now played by Jordy Lucas), returns and moves in. Months later, Steph is sent to prison for six years. In November 2010, it was revealed that Number 26 would be set on fire during Neighbours' season finale the following month. The house is ruined by the fire and the roof collapses. Lyn hires Jim Dolan (Scott Parameter) to rebuild it and the family move back in a few months later. Lyn allows Kyle Canning (Chris Milligan) to move into her spare room. A few weeks later, Lyn and Charlie move to Bendigo and Summer moves in with the Kennedy family. Jade Mitchell (Gemma Pranita) and Mark Brennan (Scott McGregor) also move in with Kyle. Mark leaves and Michelle Tran (HaiHa Le) takes his place. Following Michelle's departure, Rhys Lawson (Ben Barber) moves in. The following year, Kyle's cousin, Harley (Justin Holborow), comes to stay. Jade goes to Los Angeles, while Chris Pappas (James Mason) and Sheila Canning (Colette Mann) move in. After Rhys dies, Rhiannon Bates (Teressa Liane) briefly moves in, followed by Kate Ramsay. Georgia Brooks (Saskia Hampele) moves in after marrying Kyle, and Chris moves to New York. Naomi later moves to the United States, so Sheila invites Amy Williams (Zoe Cramond) and her son to move in. In early 2016, Sheila's granddaughter, Xanthe Canning (Lily Van der Meer) comes to stay. Kyle leaves the street to reunite with Georgia. While John Doe (Andrew Morley), a mysterious young man who lost his memory moves into the spare room.

The next lodgers are Beth Brennan and Stephen's brother, Mark (Bruce Samazan). Phoebe and Stephen leave Erinsborough and Mark takes in Annalise Hartman and Rick Alessi. Lou decides to sell the house in 2004 and the boys buy it. Stuart's girlfriend, Sindi Watts, moves in and so does Stuart's brother Ned. Stuart and Sindi leaves and Connor disappears in mysterious circumstances a few months later. Toadie briefly goes to Sydney and he asks Ned to find some new tenants. Ned selects Frazer Yeats (Ben Lawson), Pepper Steiger (Nicky Whelan) and Will Griggs (Christian Clark). Ned is unaware that Toadies had promised his room to Rosetta Cammeniti (Natalie Saleeba). He later asks them to leave when he discovers Sonya is Callum's mother. Toadie and Sonya make up and she moves back in. Following Susan Kennedy's separation from her husband, Toadie invites her to move in. In early 2012, the Number 30 set underwent a makeover. On screen Sonya pushes Toadie to redecorate and change the colour scheme from "drab plaid" and brown to a "brighter, more retro look." Towards the end of the year, Toadie's cousin, Georgia Brooks (Saskia Hampele), moves in, while their daughter Nell (Scarlett Anderson) is born at the beginning of 2013. Sonya invites Stephanie Scully (Carla Bonner) to move in. In June 2016, Sonya invites her father Walter (Greg Stone) to move in, so she can support him while he tries to overcome his alcohol problems.

Teresa Bell moved in and lived with her ex-husband Brendan, her co-worker Daniel Fitzgerald (Brett Tucker) and her friend Dee Bliss (Madeleine West). Dee and Tess tried to buy the house when Phil put it on the market, but it was bought by Evan Hancock (Nicholas Opolski) who moved in with his wife Maggie (Sally Cooper) and their children; Matt (Stephen Hunt), Leo (Anthony Hammer) and Emily (Isabella Oldham). The Hancock family sold the house to Malcolm Kennedy and he rented the property briefly to Isabella Garvey and her son Saxon (Troy Lovett).

At the end of 2006, a hostage situation involving Stephanie, Charlie, Toadfish, Zeke and Katya Kinski occurred at the house when Guy Sykes threatened the group with a gun. Ty left the street to join Rachel Kinski in London and Zeke Kinski moved in with Steph after Sunny Lee's parents threatened to bring her home. Zeke later moved back home and Steph and Charlie moved out after she bought Number 26. Libby and Dan planned to buy the house, but their plans were put on hold when Dan gave his ex-wife $12,000. In May 2010, Steph announces she has a buyer for the house and the new Erinsborough High Principal Michael Williams (Sandy Winton) moves in with his daughter Natasha (Valentina Novakovic). Following a fire at their home, Lyn Scully and Summer and Charlie Hoyland temporarily move in with Michael and Natasha. Michael departs in 2012, leaving Natasha alone. Vanessa later invites Lou Carpenter to move in her and Lucas.

While Vanessa and Lucas move into temporary accommodation at the hospital to be close to their son, Lou's daughter Lauren Turner (Kate Kendall) and her family move in. Lauren's mother Kathy (Tina Bursill) later buys the house from Lucas and Vanessa for the Turners. Lauren's daughter Paige Smith (Olympia Valance) moves in after breaking up with Mark Brennan. Matt and Lauren purchase the house from the children. Daniel Robinson (Tim Phillipps) moves in to help the family after Matt's death. A few weeks later, Lou and Bailey move to Queensland. Both Brad Willis and his father Doug moved into Number 32 in 2016, marking the first time Doug had lived on Ramsay Street in 21 years. Brad's estranged son, Ned Willis (Ben Hall) is invited to move in to reconnect with his father.

Reception

Former executive producer of Neighbours Don Battye described the street in 1989: "Let's face it, it's a court, a dead-end street, it doesn't go anywhere. It's very much a community. Frankly, if you – in that one street – had somebody murdered, somebody with AIDS, somebody was an alcoholic, and one of the kids on drugs, you'd end up (with something) as outrageous as Peyton Place."

In September 2010, Ramsay Street came first in a poll to find out which television property is the best. The open plan houses in the street gained forty per cent of the vote. During a hostage situation in Number 32, Roz Laws of the Sunday Mercury noted "Ramsay Street becomes a disaster zone, it's almost as dangerous as Summer Bay these days". A Sunday Mail reporter observed, "Ramsay Street is the friendly sort of place where folk move into and out of each other's houses. It's much like Goldilocks testing the contents of the bears' house, depending on which love crisis the scriptwriters have brought to a head that week."
