Montazur Rahman Akbar is a Bangladeshi film director, screenwriter, producer, social activist and entrepreneur known for his film work in Dhallywood, the Bengali-language film industry centered in Dhaka, Bangladesh. He was also a freedom fighter in Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971 in Sector Number 7 under the command of Sector Commander Quazi Nuruzzaman. After returning from war, he joined the local theater group Akkelpur Adorsho Club and directed a number of plays. He started his career as an assistant director under prominent film directors Matin Rahman, Azizur Rahman, Zillur Rahman, Saiful Azam Kashem and Narayan Ghosh Mita. He worked as an assistant with the crew of successful films like Chhutir Ghonta, Janata Express and many more from 1979 to 1990. He debuted as a director with Takar Pahar (1993) but its release got delayed. Thus the first film released under his direction is NayJudhdhu (1991). He has directed successful commercial films from 1990's. He works most often in the action genre with Superstar Manna. He has collaborated with action hero Manna in 22 films, writer Abdullah Zahir Babu in 46 films, actor Dipjol in 13 films, editor Amzad Hossain in 22 films. Akbar writes screenplays for most of his films. He has written a single song in his film Big Boss (2003). He was owner of the production company Nayan-Apon Production. This company produced the films Kukhato Khuni in 2000 and Babar Junno Judhdhu in 2008 with Star Plus. His films have introduced Dipjol, Popy, Keya, Riya Sen, Shakiba, Songita, Antara Biswas and Pushpi to Dhallywood. His sibling Istofa Rahman is a cinematographer in Dhallywood. He served as board executive member of Bangladesh Film Producers Distributors Association and Bangladesh Film Directors Association. He won awards such as the Zia Sommamona Prodok (2003) and Jonotar Nishas Personality Award (2009). He also founded a development NGO named Prochesta. He has directed television commercials with agencies like Greenland Training Center, Decent Holding and Hiton TV. He has directed television drama and drama serials like Pakhal, Golden Swarna, Pakhi Ebong Manushera. He has been invited as a guest judge in television channel programs like Super Hero Super Heroin, Voice Of The Nation and Mirakkel Akkel Challenger. He is also interested in business in his hometown Joypurhat. His business enterprises include Apu Electronics Bazar, Mariam Traders, Furniture Village and Cholte Cholte.

Early life and background
Akbar's father was Kabir Uddin Mondol, who was a fish wholesale agent and 2 time elected union council member supporting of Awami League. Akbar's mother Rupjan Bibi was a housewife. He has 3 brothers and 3 sisters. Akbar's younger brother Istofa Rahman was cinematographer in dhallywood. He was married to Mariam Rahman in 13 March 1978, they have 3 son. Akbar's elder son Apu Monwar was news editor of Ekattor Television.
He attendant SSC in Akkelpur FU Pailot High school in 1973, HSC from Akkelpur MR degree college in 1975 and bachelor's degree (BA) from Joypurhat Government College in 1977 under Rajsahi Education Board. In the collage period he was look her father fisheries business and distributing fish to across the north bangle.
He was joined Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971 under sector 7, sector commender Quazi quruzzaman, group commander Saidur Rahman, he was trained from Panikhoni, Shiliguri, India.
Early years and theater
He was involved in theater in college in his village under Chantara Club and his college club Akkelpur MR Collaee Club. He was active in play direction from 1973 to 1978. He directed famous play that period Pagla Garod, Nowab Siraj Ud dowla and more. In this time, he was look after her father fish wholesale agency in his own village. Akbar used to distribute the fish to other area whole North Bengal. He was, in his college life, active member of Bangladesh Chatro Union. In 2016 he was directed Nowab Siraj Ud dowla showing Jamalgonj, Joypurhat after 38 years returning as theater direction.

He met Azizur Rahman when he was planning for his famous film Chhutir Ghonta. Akbar got chance to work this international acclaimed films. In those time, he also met Motin Rahman, another assistant director of this film. He continued his works as an assistant with Zillur Rahman, Saiful Azom Kashem and Narayon Ghosh Mita 1979 to 1990. In 1989, he was working as Special Correspond in Weekly Nipoon, which publish from New Kakrail Road, Shantinagar, Dhaka.
He was Debut as a Director of the film Takar Pahar (1993), film was produced by Dipjol elder brother Shadat Hossain Badsha, (aka Badsha Bhai) its was also debut film of Dipjol His first released film as a director was Nayjuddho in 1991. In 1992, Ilias Kanchon and Diti acted his third film Chakor, the 60 lakh budget film earned 2 corer with 6 month continuously run in theater. Chakor film song was quiet popular in radio and audio cassette that time. He was called from big production company popularly known as Movie Moghul AKM Jahangir Khan's Aalamgir Pictures. He directed next three films Prem Dewana (1993), Disco Dancer (1994), Babar Adesh (1995). In 1997 he directed Coolie, which collected 70 million against budget 12 million Coolie become highest-grossing film of 1997 and debuted film of Sadika Parvin Popy. In 1998, fight director Arman was become producer, founded her film production company Arman Production with Akbar directorial another film Manna starring Shanto Keno Mastan, film gross collection 50 million against budget 9 million. Akbar directed 5 film of Arman Production, Akbar directed Indo-Bangla joint venture film Moner Moto Mon, film was didn't good at box office, Moner Moto Mon was third collaboration of bony pictures's after as an assistant director films Bony Pictures's Miss Lolita (1985) and Radha Kishno (1992). In 1999 He was also the adviser director of Helal Khan's film Asha Amar Asha, another Dipjol production film Ke Amar Baba and Bhoyongkor Bishu and another film Moger Mulluk and Lathi.
In 2000 he was co-founded production company Panorama Movies, under company produced directed film Manna, Shahnaj casting Kukkhato Khuni collected 350 million against a budget of 125 million, making it the most expensive movie that time, film released 89 screen at a time, Kukkhato Khuni was released as 35mm negative format film print was hijacked in gabtoli, Mirpur road, then re print and delivered to booked hall, Arman Production second film Gunda Number One hugely appreciate at box office. Manna's death in 2008 Dhallywood industry fallen day by day, theatre are closed whole the country, Akbar moved the television channel he was directed first TV drama Pakhal but channel doesn't accept quickly on aired after two year later. He was directed drama Golden Swarna, Bracelate drama serial Kaji Saheber Tin Putro and Pakhi Ebong Mnushera. Most of them couldn't be accepted at television channel authority, he was back to film direction and set up other business. He was directed few television commercial and documentary like agency Greenland Training Center, Decent Holding, Greenland Training Center, Hiton TV. He was guest judge of television reality program Super Hero Super Heroin (2009) (NTV), Mirakkel Akkel Challenger (2011) (Zee Bangla), Voice of the Nation (2013) (Ekushey Television).
Enterprises
Montazur Rahman Akbar looked to establish a business besides his film career. He had business experience from his father's business dealing; he looked after his father's business at college time. He want business setup when fallen film industry. He was many of time take a step to set up a company but some of time he was unsuccessful. Finally he took distributorship of electronics brand Walton in Joypurhat his hometown in 2000 under Apu Electronics Bazar (2001–2014). Showroom running successfully 14 years, then he wanted to set up his own product and brand. He set up a business based on her hometown Joypurhat, he took distribution of Pran under trading corporation Mariam Traders in 2014, he founded furniture brand Furniture Village in 2015 and fashion house Cholte Cholte in 2016.
Philanthropy
In 2000 Akbar founded a NGO, Prochesta, in his hometown Joypurhat. Prochesta works in urban development project with local donor, supporter and partner organization like Democracy Watch, Ngo Forum, Aristocrat Society, Akbar is the Executive Director of this organization. Prochesta work for drinking water supply and sanitation whole Joypurhat and neighbor district. Prochesta training to root level people for hygienic toilet, germ free hand wash, boutique house training and etc. Prochesta organised group savings and credit program for few term, Prochesta have listed 400 group small society.
