Lemon Tree Hotels was founded by Patu Keswani in 2002. The first Lemon Tree Hotel opened in Gurgaon in June 2004. It is in Udyog Vihar with 49 rooms.
The company operates under 3 brands: Lemon Tree Premier (upscale), Lemon Tree Hotels (midscale) & Red Fox Hotels (economy).
In India, its hotels are located in major destinations such as Ahmedabad, Aurangabad, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dehradun, Delhi, Goa, Gurgaon, Ghaziabad, Hyderabad, Indore, Jaipur, Katra, Jammu and Kashmir Kerala, Noida, Pune and Vadodara.
Lemon Tree Hotels plans to expand its portfolio to 8000 rooms by 2018. Hotels are currently under development in Mumbai, Pune, Kolkata, Coimbatore, Jammu, Trichy, Shimla and Udaipur. The chain is expanding in the east of India by way of an owned upscale hotel in Kolkata and two managed midscale hotels, one each in Siliguri (50 rooms) and Gangtok, Sikkim (80 rooms). Besides this, the chain is also looking at entering strategic destinations like Asansol, Bhubaneswar, and Mirik.Scheduled for 2018 the Rajarhat property in Kolkata is slated to be an upscale Lemon Tree Premier and will comprise 150 rooms.

Pooch Policy
The Lemon Tree Hotel Company also adopts street dogs that are cared for by the Lemon Tree team. A supporter of the NGO PETA (People for Ethical Treatments of Animals), each of its hotels in India has an adopted dog mascot. It is the largest corporate adopter of stray dogs in India.
