Florian is a masculine given name borrowed from the ancient Roman name Florianus. The name is derived from Florus, from Latin flōrus "(originally) yellow, blond; (later) flowering" (related to flāvus "yellow, blond"; compare also Romanian flor "blond, with reddish-blond hair"), although by popular etymology it is often linked to flōs (genitive singular flōris) "flower". It is the name of the patron saint of Poland and Upper Austria.
