Thomas County is a county in the U.S. state of Nebraska. As of the 2010 census, the population was 647. Its county seat is Thedford. The county was formed in 1887 and named after General George H. Thomas.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has an area of 714 square miles (1,850 km2), of which 713 square miles (1,850 km2) is land and 0.8 square miles (2.1 km2) (0.1%) is water.

As of the census of 2000, there were 729 people, 325 households, and 216 families residing in the county. The population density was 1 person per square mile (0/km²). There were 446 housing units at an average density of 1 per square mile (0/km²). The racial makeup of the county was 99.45% White, 0.27% Native American, and 0.27% from two or more races. 0.82% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 325 households out of which 26.80% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.60% were married couples living together, 4.30% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.50% were non-families. 31.40% of all households were made up of individuals and 16.60% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.24 and the average family size was 2.84.
In the county, the population was spread out with 23.60% under the age of 18, 4.40% from 18 to 24, 23.90% from 25 to 44, 27.80% from 45 to 64, and 20.30% who were 65 years of age or older.
