Focusing on narrow releases of independent films from around the world and from U.S. filmmakers, Regent's successes include such Academy Award-winning films as Departures, Best Foreign Language film from Japan; Gods and Monsters, starring Ian McKellen; Sordid Lives, starring Olivia Newton-John, Delta Burke, and Leslie Jordan; Franco Zeffirelli's Callas Forever, starring Fanny Ardant, Jeremy Irons and Joan Plowright; and The Hunting of the President, producer Harry Thomason's documentary based on the book about the right-wing conspiracy to destroy Bill Clinton. Regent also distributes film acquisitions from Here Films, their LGBT sister public company.

Current films include the Academy Award winner Departures by director Yojiro Takita; the stop-action puppetry animation award contender $9.99, starring Geoffrey Rush and Anthony LaPaglia from director Tatia Rosenthal; Little Ashes, and foreign film contenders Tokyo Sonata by director Kiyoshi Kurosawa, and The Song of Sparrows from Iranian director Majid Majidi.

In 2005, Regent secured a three-year, $50 million credit facility through Merrill Lynch. In 2011, Merrill Lynch and Bank of America sued Regent Entertainment charging "defendants committed deliberate acts of fraud and self-dealing... and schemed to funnel loan proceeds to themselves through a series of sham transfers and transactions with affiliated parties."

Regent Releasing titles (by release year) include:
