The Nantes Metropolis (French: Nantes Métropole) is the intercommunal structure gathering the city of Nantes (France) and its suburbs.

History

The Urban Community was founded in 2001. On January 1, 2015, the Metropolis replaces the Urban Community in accordance with a law of January 2014.

Administration

The Metropolitan Council consists of 97 members, one of them being the president, currently Johanna Rolland, the mayor of Nantes.

It includes 24 communes:

Nantes Métropole encompasses only the center of the metropolitan area of Nantes (see infobox at Nantes article for the metropolitan area). Communes further away from the center of the metropolitan area have formed their own intercommunal structures, such as:

Community of Communes of Erdre and Gesvres (Communauté de communes d'Erdre et Gesvres): 43,201 inhabitants

Community of Communes of Grand-Lieu (Communauté de communes de Grand-Lieu): 27,720 inhabitants

Community of Communes of Loire Divatte (Communauté de communes de Loire Divatte): 19,487 inhabitants
