Makutamleni Maharaju (English: Emperor Without Crown) is a 1987 Telugu, Action, drama film produced by B.V.S.N. Prasad on Sri Krishna Prasanna Pictures banner and directed by K. Bapayya. Starring Krishna, Sridevi, Rajendra Prasad, Chandra Mohan in the lead roles and music composed by Chakravarthy. The film is remade as Hindi Movie Amiri Garibi (1990). The film recorded as Super Hit at the box office.

Plot

Pardhasaradhi (Krishna) is big don who always stands for justice, his word is an ordinance to smugglers and deadly gangsters and he is a god to the poor in the society. Due to this reason he has been getting rid of the house by his father Raghavaiah (Rao Gopal Rao) who lives in a village. Pardhasaradhi always has a tough fight with J.B. (Nutan Prasad) & his gang. Once a wealthy industrialist, Sivaram Prasad (Gummadi) travels to his village where his childhood friend, Raghavaiah resides. He meets with him, his wife Janaki (Annapurna) and their daughter Sumathi (Poornima), he proposes that Sumathi marries his son Mohan (Rajendra Prasad) who is a close friend to J.B. & gang. They are overjoyed, and soon a marriage takes place. Pardhasaradhi attends the marriage and he is thrown out by his father. So, he watches the marriage joining in a dance party performed by Saroja (Sridevi). Mohan is attracted towards Saroja and he wants to enjoy with her. But Saroja is loving Pardhasaradhi since a long time when once she has been protected from goons.

Meanwhile, Sumathi reaches mother-in-law's house, she is not at all welcomed by her husband, mother-in-law Rajyalakshmi (Y. Vijaya) and her sisters-in-laws, Rekha (Mucherla Aruna) and Rani (Chandrika) a shrew women. Meanwhile, Ganapathi (Chandra Mohan) Parthasarathy's childhood friend reaches the city in search of a job, Pardhasaradhi gives him shelter, then the unexpected happens, Sivaram Prasad is Ganapathi's maternal uncle and he has happened to be Rekha's childhood bride. Now Ganapathi goes to claim Rekha as his wife and moves into their house, much to the chagrin of Rekha & her family and successfully brings out Rekha.

Simultaneously, Mohan tries to trap Saroja with his tactics but she does not yield to it. On the other side, Sumathi is ill-treated, belittled, slapped and humiliated on every possible occasion. Pardhasaradhi comes to know regarding this through Ganapathi, to protect Saroja from Mohan and to stabilize his sister's marriage family Pardhasaradhi marries her. Taking this as advantage J.B. & gang kill Saroja's brother-in-law Joga Rao (Devadas Kanakala) and implicates Pardhasaradhi into the case and he has been sentenced to life imprisonment. Tragedy follows as Sivaram Prasad passes away, leaving Sumathi to the mercy of mother-in-law, who loses no time in turning the tables on them and asking her to leave the house. Pardhasaradhi escapes from jail and his father Raghavaiah comes to his help and asks him to set right his sister's life. Meanwhile, J.B. & gang plan makes along with Mohan to catch Pardhasaradhi that Mohan is making remarriage, but they double-crosses when Mohan, try to kill him and he has been protected by Pardhasaradhi where Mohan releases his mistake. Finally, Pardhasaradhi sees the end of baddies and reunites the entire family.
