She is known for her nickname, "Janice Dean, the Weather Machine", coined by Fox News Channel anchor Shepard Smith. She has also been called "Janice Dean, the Weather Queen".

Before beginning work for Fox News channel, Dean worked at several radio and television stations in Canada and the United States, including Imus in the Morning, CHEZ-FM, and WCBS-TV.

Personal life
Dean was born in Toronto and grew up in Ottawa. She was married in 2007 to Sean Newman of the New York City Fire Department. They have two sons, Matthew, born in 2009 and Theodore, born in 2011.
In 2005, Janice Dean was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS), a chronic auto immune disease that attacks the protective outer sheaths of the nerves.
