Born and raised in Chongqing, where she attended Chongqing Art School in 1996. Yin entered People's Liberation Army Arts College in 1999, majoring in drama, where she graduated in 2003. After graduation, Yin worked in Chinese People's Liberation Army Naval Song and Dance Troupe.

In 2003, Yin rose to fame for her roles in television series such as Heaven of History and Red Detachment of Women.

Yin starred as A Mei, reuniting her with co-star Li Xuejian, who played Sun Li, in the 2006 television series I Take the Wrong Bus, for which she won the Outstanding Actress Award at the 23rd Golden Eagle Awards.

In 2007, Yin starred in the romantic comedy television series called Happiness As Flowers with Betty Sun, Deng Chao, and Xin Baiqing, she received Flying Apsaras Award nomination for Best Actress.

In 2008, Yin appeared in The Woman's Lifetime, she was nominated for the Best Actress Award at the 14th Shanghai Television Baiyulan Award. She also as the torch bearer in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

In 2010, Yin co-starred with Anthony Wong in the historical television series The Legend of Yang Guifei, which received mixed reviews. That same year, Yin performed sketch comedy Flying Without Wings with Yan Ni, Liu Min, Chai Quan, Liu Siyan and Chen Weihan in the CCTV New Year's Gala.

In 2011, Yin starred in the historical television series Secret History of Empress Wu, alongside Liu Xiaoqing and Siqin Gaowa, which received positive reviews. At the same year, Yin sang the pop song Home New Year with Han Geng, Dong Jie, Dou Xiao and Zhou Dongyu in the CCTV New Year's Gala.

In 2013, Yin earned a Best Actress Award at the 5th New Rural Television Festival for her role in Family On the Go, and earned her second Best Actress Award at the 29th Flying Apsaras Awards for her role in The Love in Yan'an. That same year, Yin acted in Police Story 2013, a film starring Jackie Chan.
