Vishwakarma Institute of Technology (Marathi : विश्वकर्मा अभियांत्रिकी महाविद्यालय, पुणे ) is an Autonomous Institute of engineering in Pune, India. Established in 1983, it is affiliated to the Savitribai Phule Pune University. The school is academically and financially autonomous and is run by the Bansilal Ramanath Agarwal Charitable Trust. The director is Prof. Dr. R. M. Jalnekar.

The college has attained academic autonomy from the academic year 2008-09. It is the first private college in Maharashtra to do so. Academic autonomy has helped the college to introduce cross-departmental and industry oriented subjects in the curriculum. The college is the only college in Pune to provide Honors and Minors course in addition to normal undergraduate course.

The college is situated in the Bibwewadi area of Pune,Maharashtra.

    Campus

    The college has about 2800 students, 225 faculty members, 67 laboratories, 1 central library and 150 administrative and supportive staff.

    Spread over an area of 7 acres (28,000 m2), the academic area consists of four major buildings. The campus has a canteen, a nescafe coffee outlet, a fruit-juice(and breakfast) center and a bakery that remains open during the college hours, and a fully air-conditioned auditorium with ceiling fans.

    The students hostel is off-campus The hostel is state of the art and is equipped with a mess facility for students. It is located about 3.5 km from the academic area.

    Global Alliances/International-liaisons

  • Student Exchange Program with Groupe des Ecoles des Mines (GEM), France.
  • GEM and VIT have a Memorandum of Understanding allowing a Student Exchange Program, where students studying in seven GEM affiliated schools in France, send their students to VIT and students in the third year (T.E.) of their bachelor's degree at VIT, go to France for one semester. The first batch completed its studies abroad in Jan-May 2009. This association also encourages higher learning (postgraduate) in GEM schools across France.

  • Student Exchange Program with colleges in Ontario-Maharashtra-Goa (OMG).
  • Under this program, students at VIT are sent to various partner colleges in the state of Ontario, Canada, while Canadian students come to participating colleges in Maharashtra and Goa. Students in the third year (T.E.) of their bachelor's degree at VIT, are sent to Canada for one semester. The first batch completed its studies abroad in Aug-Dec 2009.

    VIT has opened its international office at Nepal in association with Indo - World Educational Consultancy (P) Ltd, Kathmandu, Nepal. Mr. Shiva Prasad Aryal is looking after Nepal market to enroll students under PIO / FN category. More than 400 students from 28 countries had already joined VIT to pursue their higher education.

  • Campus events

    The college organises state, national, and international conferences and events.

  • Mélange
  • This annual event is a mixture of cultural, technical and sporting competitions, where students from colleges across India come to participate.

  • Vishwakarandak
  • This annual event is the flagship cultural event on the campus, culminating with the college gathering. The participants are restricted to students of VIT and the competitions are held between the departments. The college publishes its own newsletter by the name of Wink.

  • Entrepreneurship Development Centre
  • The Entrepreneurship Development Centre (EDC) has a vision of 'Producing successful entrepreneurs imbibed with leadership qualities using innovative and ethical business practices to make global impact'. It was founded in September 2013 and have been successful in organizing various sessions of imminent personalities.

  • Mercantile Club
  • Mercantile - The Economics and Finance Club is a student driven and faculty guided initiative for enthusiasts in the field of finance and economics. The objective of the club is to help students appreciate the role of economics and finance by linking the learning in the classroom to real life business news and problems. The club achieves its objectives by conducting various events which includes case study analysis, eco-fin quiz, crosswords, guest lectures, workshops and virtual stock trading competition.

  • Mirage Campus Film Society
  • Mirage Campus Film Society - MIRAGE Campus Film Society was formed in VIT College in November 2009. VIT became the first college in Pune University to have affiliated film society from Federation of Film Societies of India (FFSI). This is a unique movement organized by the college to cultivate the taste of good cinema. The basic objective of Mirage is to let students know that Cinema is not only a form entertainment but it is an art form as well as a medium of communication.
