Maharashtra Institute of Technology (MIT), Pune, is an engineering college affiliated to the University of Pune, India. Established in 1983 by Vishwanath D. Karad, it is among the first engineering colleges in the private sector in Maharashtra.

Admission

Admissions to the institute are done through CAP rounds. Special provisions are made for foreign nationals who come in a large number in MIT every year. From this year admissions will be through MHT-CET 2016 exam scores.

    The institute's 17-acre campus is situated in the city of Pune. Apart from the numerous educational institutions, the campus also houses a World Peace Centre, the UNESCO chair for Human Rights, Democracy, Peace and Tolerance. Facilities include a canteen, branches of The Sangli Bank and the Bank of India, an auditorium, medical dispensaries and a Meditation Temple.

    Research and development

    To fulfill the need of carrying out research, development and innovation work, the institute established the MIT Center of Excellence for Research & Innovation (MITCERI). The center organizes various events like national and international conferences, workshops on research methodology and guest lectures delivered by researchers from industry and academia. The institute was also one of the organizers of the CUBE 2012 International Information Technology Conference & Exhibition. A Research Center of University of Pune in Geology is functioning in Petroleum department of MIT.

    Robocon India

    The institute, in collaboration with Doordarshan, organizes Robocon India. Participation is an end-to-end competitive experience, from concept design of a system to manufacture, of robots programmed to perform according to the rules of the game played on a high precision technical contest area.

    Summit

    MIT Summit is a national-level sports meet between engineering institutes hosted by MAAERs MIT. Over 3200 sports persons from 75 colleges all over the country participate in 14 different sports.

    Texephyr

    Texephyr, the institute's annual technical festival, is held in February and was first held in 2014. It is a jointly organized by the Mechanical, Computer, E&TC, and IT departments of the institute.

    Departmental events

    All academic departments organize national-level technical events separately, including Nirmitee (Civil Engineering), Petrovision (Petrochemical Engineering), SPE AIIIP (Petroleum Engineering) and Affinity and Confluence (Polymer Engineering).

    MIT ROBOCON Tech Team

    The MIT Robocon Tech Team is a group of students from almost all engineering streams that participates in Robocon India.

    MIT BAJA Team Piranha Racing

    MIT BAJA Team Piranha Racing comprises a group of students who design, fabricate and race an all-terrain vehicle to compete at the BAJA SAEINDIA event held at the NATRAX facility at Pithampur, M. P., India. The team's creation, the 'Pavan Putra' came 6th in the Endurance Race during the BAJA 2012 event.

    MIT Cultural

    MIT Cultural mainly participates in the two major Marathi drama competitions of Pune, Purushottam Karandak and Firodia Karandak. It has won many prizes in the recent years including "Purushottam Mahakarandak 2014" and "Sawaai Karandak 2014" held in Pune and Mumbai, respectively. It has also participated and won in various other presitigous events like - Mood Indigo (IIT Bombay), Sinhagad Karandak '14 (Winners Duet Vocals) and "Natyasampada".

    MIT Computer Users Group

    MIT Computer Users Group (MCUG) is the official technical group of MIT Pune. MIT Linux Users Group is a part of MCUG. The group is open to everyone including non-MITians. This group provides and seeks any help related to technology amongst its members. They also conduct seminars and workshops on almost all computer related topics.

    MIT Astronomy Club

    The MIT astronomy club is a group of amateur astronomers within MIT. It's a public group that's open to all.

    MIT E-CELL

    MIT E-CELL provides the potential entrepreneurs of MIT with a platform to develop and hone their skills as entrepreneurs via its activities. It conducts seminars and workshops on a regularly basis.

    MIT E&TC's Recreation and Cultural Group

    MERC is a cultural group for students in the E&TC Department. Activities include drama (theater), dance, short film making and workshops. Members have secured prizes at national-level competitions in acting and dancing.

    Sister Institutes

    Maharashtra Institute of Technology's sister institutes are the MIT College of Engineering and MIT Academy of Engineering.
