Overview

The village is situated in Southern India in the State of Tamil Nadu. The village is located 20 mi (32 km) south of the temple town Kancheepuram and 35 miles north of the famous hospital in the town of Vellore. The village has a population of 5,000 leading a harmonious life. This village is predominantly agrarian with rice being the staple food. Irrigation and drinking water is primarily available from the water from wells and ponds filled in the rainy season from October to January. The village is connected to other villages and towns through the state highways.

It is administered as part of the Vembakkam taluk.

People in this villages live in unity. The chief occupations of the people are agriculture and Weaving (Kanchi cotton and silk sarees).

History

The name "Vadamanappakkam" comes from "Vaadamalai Amman" located in "Easwarar Temple" in the village.

The Vadamanappakkam village has an elementary school with 500 students and a high school with 700 students. The schools have a common playground in a rural setting with dimensions of 200 yards X 400 yards. The High School has a good record and each year more and students get high scores in public exams. Other students from nearby villages like Melbhudheri, Perumanthangal, Thandappanthangal, Moranam, and Thennampattu join here and shape their careers well. Vadamanappakkam village has a one rural library with many books and daily newspapers providing a source for villagers to expand their knowledge.

It is located near(27 km) to Katpadi railway Junction. All trains from Chennai to Coimbatore, Bangalore, Trivandrum goes by this route only.

Festivals

Festivals are a common form of celebration in the village and include:

1) Pongal festivals celebrated with unity these days most of the peoples comes to native and celebrate the festivals. In the day of maatu pongal after pooja over peoples rounded villages using bullock cart children's and others happily travel that and they "chorus" works like "pongalo pongal maatu pongal" like that.

2) Like Pongal, Deepavali also celebrated in happily, also they celebrate "Vinayagar Chathoorthi", "Autha Pooja", "Krishnar Jeyanthi" etc.

3) Every year on the 4th Sunday of the Tamil month "Thai" they celebrate a festival for "Thanthondri Amman". On that day Peoples in all communities gather and they prepare pongal and done the poojas to amman and in that day evening "Maadu Pidi" process going. The highlight of that day is "Amman Thiruveethi ulla", why because most of the people in this village have viratham and done the nerthikadan while this time, like peoples had "Manda Villaku", "Kaan imai sathuthal". Because peoples accept this amman is a powerful.

4) The important festival happened in Subramaniyar swami temple is "Surasamharam". In recent times this festivals done in 2 years once.This was basic of surasamharam incident in Kantha Puranam. This is a 3 days festival and the 3rd day festival happened at "Kantha Sasti" day. In day after this "surasamharam" we are waiting for this function, in this function we enjoy the 3 days, our people participating the several programs for ex: Kattakatti vedam for attacking the Murugan.

5) After "Kumbabisegam" done in Earikarai Amman Kovil each year "Aadi" month celebrating the festival.

6) In Krishnajeyanthi day festivals celebrated in "Krishnar kovil (Venugopal swami)" in yathava street and road street celebrated the function.In that day "Uri adi" function done in yadava street.

7) In every 'Vinayakar Sathurthi' festival clebrated in "yadhava street (vallampuri vinayaga temple)and some temples found in my village.
