Midsomer biscuit tycoon Mr Harry Calder stays at a hotel located at the large City Hall Square (Rådhuspladsen) during a visit to the Danish Capital. He receives and opens what appears to be an empty biscuit tin. However, he becomes dizzy, and after an attempt to wash his hands,he falls down dead.
As the goods were sent from Midsomer, Danish detective Birgitte Poulsen asks Barnaby to investigate. DCI Barnaby and DS Nelson start their investigation at home, but when a second murder occurs at the Calder Family's biscuit bakery, they have to take a flight across the North Sea.
They arrive at Copenhagen after a short flight, but Barnaby's Danish counterpart, the good looking Birgitte Poulsen doesn't initially allow Barnaby and Nelson to investigate as they normally would. The first victim, Harry Calder, turns out to be one of many in a family of biscuit manufacturers. When Barnaby and Nelson return to Midsomer they are following a complicated thread, but still a thread which appear to be the best possible way in order to solve both murders. Further murders take place before the Barnaby and Nelson track down the killer.
