The Great Father is an Indian Malayalam film directed by Haneef Adeni and produced byPrithviraj Sukumaran, Arya, Santhosh Sivan, and Shaji Nadesan under the banner of August Cinema. Starring Mammootty in the lead role and Arya, Sneha and Shaam in supporting roles. The film was planned to release on 25 December 2016 on Christmas, but was postponed to 30 March 2017. The film was released in 202 screens, 958 shows (including late night shows), and earned the highest first day collection for any film in Malayalam industry of ₹4.76 crore (US$710,000).

On 19 August 2016, actor Mammootty shared the first look poster of the film through his Facebook profile. It is produced by Prithviraj Sukumaran, Arya, Santosh Sivan, and Shaji Nadesan under the banner of August Cinema. South Indian actress, Sneha, plays the female lead. Even though apprehensions were there that Sara Arjun was acting as the daughter of Mammootty Anikha was cast in the film to essay the role. On 4 September 2016, principal photography began in Wagamon, Kochi, with other shooting locations including Thrissur. Producer-actor Arya also portrays a role, that of a villain, in the film. The actor himself released the teaser on 10 February. The film tries to bring back onto the screen the macho, protecting, style guru Mammootty whom the fans have been missing for long. The songs are composed by Gopi Sunder and the background score is composed by Sushin Shyam.

The film earned record of the highest first day collection for any film in Kerala box office of ₹4.31 crore (US$640,000)..
