The Amazing Race Canada 2

Development and filming

On September 16, 2013, CTV announced that the show was renewed for the second season during the first season reunion special.

Unlike the first season, the race traveled to destinations outside of Canada like other international Amazing Race counterparts.

This show features MasterChef Canada judge Alvin Leung as a judge for the "Master Chef" task in Leg 3 and Hong Kong-Canadian actress Jennifer Tse, who greeted the teams in the Pit Stop on the same leg.

Casting

Casting began in November 2013, with an online site for submission of applications and audition videos. The first three teams were revealed on June 17, 2014, with the remaining teams announced on June 18 and June 20. The contestants include ice hockey players and gold medalists Natalie Spooner and Meaghan Mikkelson, ballet dancer Rex Harrington as well as comedian Ryan Steele from The Ryan and Amy Show

Alain Chanoine proposed to Audrey Tousignant-Maurice at the Pit Stop of Leg 8.

Marketing

Air Canada and Chevrolet retain their sponsorship from the first season. The new prize includes receiving a gas supply from Petro-Canada and each leg prize includes cash from Scotiabank.

Broadcasting

After episode 6, a special mid-season reunion/recap titled "After The Race" aired. Hosted by James Duthie, the program reviewed the events of the first 6 episodes with the first 5 eliminated teams. A second "After The Race" special that was again hosted by Duthie, aired immediately after the season finale with all the teams present to review the season as a whole.

Leg 1 (Alberta → British Columbia)

Airdate: July 8, 2014

In the first Roadblock of the season, teams had to make their way to the hangar of the Aero Centre, where they would board a plane and then tandem skydive 12,000 feet (3,700 m) with an instructor onto Willows Beach, where they could join their partner. Their instructor would give them their next clue.

In the second Roadblock, the team member did not participate the first Roadblock had to serve afternoon tea to the patrons at the Empress Hotel in Victoria. They were given a lesson in etiquette and had to recite the menu options from memory. Once the tea master declared that they had provided "acceptable service", he would hand them their next clue.

Leg 2 (British Columbia)

Airdate: July 15, 2014

During the Pit Stop, all teams were moved back to The Empress to begin this leg of the race. In the first Detour of the race, teams was a choice between Sharp Knives and Sharp Eyes; both detours required teams to head to Ucluelet Harbour. In Sharp Knives, teams had to watch a demonstration, and then correctly fillet at least 30 pounds (14 kg) of fish to receive their next clue. Teams had a limited amount of fish. If they ran out without reaching the target they must switch detour options or take a penalty. In Sharp Eyes, teams had to sort through 1,000 pounds (450 kg) of assorted Pacific rockfish and separate them into five bins.

In this leg's Roadblock, one team member to use driftwood from the beach as well as fishing nets to construct a traditional Tofino deckchair and sit through the builder's weight to receive their next clue.

Leg 3 (British Columbia → Hong Kong, China)

Airdate: July 22, 2014

During the Pit Stop, all teams were moved back to Chesterman Beach to begin this leg of the race. The Detour was a choice between Master Chef, or Kung Fu Master. In Master Chef, teams have to go to Bo Innovation, and then be greeted by MasterChef Canada judge Alvin Leung. He will hand them a shopping list of 10 items. They must then go to Wan Chai Wet Market, and purchase all 10 items and head back. Once they found the 10 items on the shopping list that Alvin Leung gave the teams, he will hand them their next clue. In Kung Fu Master, teams suit up in a traditional martial arts uniform, and then perform a difficult kung fu routine. If they successfully perfected their kung fu skills, kung fu master Lee would hand them their next clue.

In the leg's Roadblock, one team member will be first greeted by a snake master who will choose a serpent and show it to the team member. The master would take out the snake's gallbladder and then the person has to drink a shot of the snake's bile and a bowl of snake meat soup. After they finished their meal, the master would give them their next clue.

Leg 4 (Hong Kong, China → Macau, China)

Airdate: July 29, 2014

In the leg's Roadblock, one team member had to take a 764 feet (233 m) bungee jump off the Macau Tower. Once they landed on the street below, they received their next clue.

The Detour was a choice between Stamp It or Stomp It. In Stamp It, teams had to make their way to the Ruins of St Paul's, where they would pick up a scroll. They then had to search the streets around Senado Square looking for six shrines, marked with one of six ancient Chinese symbols. At each station, they had to mark their scroll with a stamp in ink. Once they returned to the Ruins of St Paul's with six stamps on their scroll, they would receive their next clue. In Stomp It, teams had to head to Senado Square and join a Macanese folk dance troupe and learn a complicated routine. Once the instructor was happy with their effort, she would hand them their next clue.

Leg 5 (Macau, China → Yukon)

Airdate: August 5, 2014

During the Pit Stop, all teams were moved to Kun Iam Ecumenical Centre to begin this leg of the race. The Detour was a choice between Make Your Bed or Ride a Sled. In Make Your Bed, teams have to grab 2 heavy backpacks, and then head to the campsite, to find a locked chest, and a key inside a block of ice in the cooler. Then, they have to empty their backpacks, properly built a tent, and set up a campfire which is needed to melt the block the ice to retrieve the key. Teams will then open the chest, do inspection with a wilderness expert and receive their next clue. In Ride A Sled, teams first select 3 dogs from a board at the ranch, then they have to run 1.5 kilometres (0.93 mi) on a trail to a frozen lake. Then, they have to search through a number of dog harnesses that matches 3 dogs they selected. Once found the harnesses, teams will have to correctly put it on the dog, and attach the dogs to the sled. Each team member will have to complete 3 laps around the frozen lake to receive their next clue.

The Speed Bump required Sukhi & Jinder have to use their Chevrolet Silverado to hook up a 20 feet (6.1 m) trailer. Then they drive 12.5 kilometres (7.8 mi) to a marked parking spot for a trailer until they have to reverse their pickup truck. The trailer or the pickup truck cannot knock down any cones.

In this leg's Roadblock, one team member to ride a snow bike for 1 kilometre (0.62 mi) course in the woods before heading to the shooting range, where the person has to successfully shoot all 5 targets without missing, the shooter would receive the next clue. If the person misses any targets, they must start over again by running the course again, and shoot the remaining targets.

Leg 6 (Yukon → Manitoba)

Airdate: August 12, 2014

The Fast Forward had teams to go to the Exchange District's iconic building "The Cube" and receive a list of partial phrases. They then had to search around the district for seven historic painted advertisements on the outside walls of buildings, which would contain the full version of one of their partial phrases. They had to look at the advertisement and fill in the blanks on sheets of paper with what was painted on the building. Once they had all seven filled in, they could return to The Cube and being awarded the Fast Forward.

The Detour was a choice between Puck It and Pinch It. In Puck It, teams made their way to the MTS Centre, where they had to dress in hockey gear. Team members would take turns guiding a puck down a slalom of cones and would then shoot it at the net, which would be blocked by a wooden goalie with five holes. Teams would have to shoot the puck through all five openings, including "the notorious" five-hole. In Pinch It, teams made their way to the St. Ivan Suchavsky Cathedral to find the basement hall. There, they had to properly make 74 traditional Ukrainian pierogis.

In the Roadblock, one team member would dress as a glam rock star and had to memorize a rock and roll song. They would then perform it with a band in front of an audience of Winnipeg music-lovers, and would receive their next clue if they sang all of the lyrics correctly.

Leg 7 (Manitoba → France)

Airdate: August 19, 2014

During the Pit Stop, all teams were moved back to Portage and Main to begin this leg of the race. In the leg's Roadblock, one team member had to take a sample of calvados from a barrel and use a mathematical formula and tools provided, as well as a demonstration, to distil the calvados to 40% ABV. Once the distiller was happy with their work, they received their next clue.

The Detour was a choice between Show It or Tell It. In Show It, teams had to travel to Elevage de Nesque and correctly groom a Percheron horse of their choosing. Once the horse was groomed, they had to correctly braid the horse's mane to receive their next clue. In Tell It, teams traveled to the courtyard of the Bayeux Tapestry Museum, where they were given twelve images of the Norman invasion of England from the tapestry. Using nine descriptions on boards around the courtyard, they had to correctly identify the images that matched up to the descriptions and place them on a board. Once all nine were correct order, they received their next clue.

Leg 8 (France)

Airdate: August 26, 2014

During the Pit Stop, all teams were moved to Bayeux Cathedral to begin this leg of the race. The Detour was a choice between Haute Couture and Plat du Jour. In Haute Couture, teams made their way to the Ecole de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne, where they would have to use the provided tools and materials to cut and sew on the fabric for a Haute Couture dress. If their dress met the satisfaction of a judge, teams would get their next clue. In Plat du Jour, teams traveled to the Marais District and had to search the chalkboard placed outside of cafés for three items marked with a race flag. Teams had to purchase these items and memorize how to pronounce them in French. They would then deliver all three items to a waiting couple and say each name correctly to get their next clue.

The Speed Bump required Ryan & Rob had to learn how to perform the French folk song "Au clair de la lune" on a pair of accordions. If they could play the song in unison for an audience, they could continue with the race.

In this Roadblock, one team member would have to recreate a local modern art painting using Race sponsor Mentos candies. They had to follow a given example and place the candies onto a board so that the image matched the painting. If they met the approval of a judge, they would get their next clue.

Leg 9 (France → Quebec)

Airdate: September 2, 2014

During the Pit Stop, all teams were moved to Parvis des droits de l'homme to begin this leg of the race. In this Roadblock, one team member had to drive a Chevrolet Camaro SS and complete a 2-stage precision driving course. First, they must perform a quarter drift without the car spinning out. Then they will perform a 180 degree reverse turn. The instructor will give them their next clue once both stages are accurately finished.

The Detour was a choice between Flamed or Grilled. In Flamed, teams headed to the Espace Verre and watch a demonstration by a local artist on how to melt glass rods to create beads. They will then make 5 different beads which are needed to complete a sample necklace. The artist will give them their next clue if the beads are all made correctly. In Grilled, teams head to a food stand called Le Cheese. They will then study and sample 10 different grilled cheese sandwiches. Then teams had to run 50 meters to the Le Cheese food truck, where they had to correctly identify all grill cheese sandwiches flavors by memory. If teams got them all correct, the chef will give them their next clue.

The Fast Forward required teams to head to Parisian Laundry where teams had to select a pose. After they selected a pose, they will head into the curtain room and then strike the pose so that artists can sketch the team. They will then will be asked to pose in their underwear and then eventually naked. If the teams get uncomfortable, teams can choose to go back to the Detour. When the artists finished sketching the teams, they would receive their clue which directed them to the Pit Stop.

Leg 10 (Quebec → Prince Edward Island)

Airdate: September 9, 2014

During the Pit Stop, all teams were moved to Place d'Armes to begin this leg of the race. In this Roadblock, one team member had to speak to impersonators of friends and family of selected Fathers of Confederation who attended the 1864 Charlottetown Conference on the grounds of Province House, who will give their delegates' name and a physical description of them. Then the team member had to go inside and correctly identify 10 Fathers of Confederation impersonators (George Brown, George-Étienne Cartier, George Coles, Robert B. Dickey, Col. John Hamilton Gray, Hector-Louis Langevin, Thomas D'Arcy McGee, William Henry Pope, Samuel Tilley, Dr. Charles Tupper) by memory. If the team member gets them all right, an impersonator of Father of Confederation and Canada's first Prime Minister, Sir John A. Macdonald, will give them their next clue.

The Speed Bump required Ryan & Rob to dig for 3 bottles of "Moonshine" inside a pile of horse manure before they could continue the Detour. The Detour was a choice between Mussel or Mass. In Mussel, teams had to go to Prince Edward Aqua Farms where they had to process 1,800 pounds (820 kg) (or three full bins) of mussels. They had to suit up and strip the mussels from their "socks" – where they were growing and multiplying in the North Atlantic for the last 2 years – into a new bin. The plant manager will give them their next clue once they're done, and their work area is clean. In Mass, teams head to a potato farm where they had to calculate the weight of over 10 million russet potatoes using a tape measure and a calculator. If teams figured out the correct weight, Vernon, the potato farmer will give them their next clue.

Leg 11 (Prince Edward Island → New Brunswick)

Airdate: September 16, 2014

During the Pit Stop, all teams were moved to Peake's Wharf to begin this leg of the race. The Detour was a choice between By Land or By Sea. In By Land, teams first have to get a GPS, then search for 10 hidden items (geocache) using their GPS. Once they returned all 10 different items, they would receive their next clue. In By Sea, teams first had to locate the Hopewell Rocks, then had to learn the Maritime tradition of international signal flags. Then they will find a box of 100 different flags and 7 nautical messages. They will then run along the beach where they will find a code book, then memorize the flag codes. When teams think they are confident, teams had to go back to the area where they found their box, then select the matching flags, then place them up on a pole in the correct order.

In this leg's Roadblock, one team member to rappel down the rock face of Cape Enrage where they will find the first half of their next clue. Then the team member will run along the rocky shore where they have to climb up the rock face to find the second half of the clue to keep on racing.

Leg 12 (New Brunswick → Ontario)

Airdate: September 21, 2014

In this leg's first Roadblock, one team member had to enter the Diefenbunker. There, they had to search among the bunker's vast array of rooms for three of five hidden toys; a helicopter, a tank, a jeep, a plane and a compass. Once they had found three and returned them to the front desk, they would receive their next clue.

In the final Roadblock of the Race, the team member did not participate the first Roadblock would have to use a mechanical ascender to climb to the top of the museum's glass atrium, grabbing their next clue along the way. Once at the top, they had to pull themselves along the roof before they could return to their partner.
