Sooty sweep and soo the big day out

The series sees Richard starting a new job as a 'Mr Fix-It' at Slater's family holiday park in a British coastal resort, with Sooty, Sweep and Soo always ready and willing to help him.

The series is filmed at Brean Leisure Park in Somerset.

Cast

  • Richard Cadell - he is the presenter of the show and is Soo's best friend.
  • Sooty - he is a mute yellow bear who is the protagonist of the show. He owns a magic wand whose power is invoked using the words "Izzy wizzy, Let's get busy!". He has green wellies.
  • Sweep - a dim-witted grey dog with a penchant for bones and sausages. He wears red wellingtons and communicates using bizarre squeaks.
  • Soo - a calm and collected female panda who acts as the foil for both Sooty and Sweep. Usually wears a red skirt. She wears pink wellies as seen in an episode. Voiced by Brenda Longman.
  • Pilot

The series pilot, The Big Day Out was released in 2009. It is about Richard taking Sooty, Sweep, and Soo to the seaside, but in true Sooty Show style - nothing goes to plan.

  • Early licensing material gave the series the name 'Sooty and Sweep', which is believed to be the working title for the show.
  • A DVD special, starring Richard Cadell and also set at a theme park, entitled "Sooty - The Big Day Out" was released in 2010, and acted as the pilot for the series.
  • Little Cousin Scampi, Butch, Ramsbottom and Sweep's mum and dad made cameos in the "The Wedding".
  • Several of the routines in the show are taken from the original Harry Corbett scripts.
  • Each episode was originally planned to be 18 minutes long, but due to the time slot allocated by CITV, elements that did not move the story forward were cut from the script.
  • Soo wears pink wellies in the Series 2 episode "The Rainy Day" where she jumps in some puddles with Sooty, Sweep and Richard. It is the first time Soo has worn wellies since in the other series she didn't.
  • Series 3 has been confirmed by Richard in an interview.
  • In "Pizza to Go", cars that look like Sally Carrera and Luigi from Cars appear on the top shelf.
  • Movie

A movie based on the series is due to be released in the future. The logline is, "Soo has been kidnapped by an evil showbiz impresario who will pull every trick in the book to turn her into a global superstar and Sooty and Sweep need her back." Brenda Longman announced in a Q&A with fans, that it is in pre production, but she is not sure of a release date.
