Simon is a common name, from Hebrew שִׁמְעוֹן Šimʻôn, meaning "listen." Some authors consider it a classical Greek name. Commentators on the New Testament question the origin of the name, assuming that it can be either a Hellenised form of the Hebrew Shim'on, or a real Greek name.
Simon is one Latinised version of the Hebrew name Shimon, another one being Simeon or Symeon.
Ancient Greek: Σίμων (Simon). This name appears in Greek mythology as one of the Telchines. In Greek means "flat-nosed".
