Adoption

The seal's adoptation was the result of the passage of Regional Act No. 1 which was passed at the Regional Legislative Assembly in September 3, 1990 and which was later approved two days later by Regional Governor Zacaria Candao.

Description

The seal of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao is circular in form. The name of the region in full and green is inscribed in the white encircling band of the seal. The words OFFICIAL SEAL is placed between the words, "Autonomous" and "Mindanao" at the lower portion of the seal.

The circular band encloses a green field with a white kris partially engulfed by a yellow crescent from the left side. The green field symbolizes the regions fertile grounds, rich vegetation and wildlife and abundance of natural resources. Yellow represents the social class structure of the major ethnic groups of the region. Likewise, the kris is a symbol of authority of the region's major ethnic groups, is described to be "partially drawn" to symbolize peace. Its color, white represents purity.

On the left side of the handle of the kris, are yellow stars equal to the number of component provinces of the region - Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi and on the right side is a single big yellow star which symbolizes the Republic of the Philippines.
