Sarawagi Group is an industrial conglomerate in India. The father company is S.K. Sarawagi & Co. Private Limited, which was established in 1961 first as a manganese ore mining company. The company claims to be the largest producer and exporter of manganese ore from India, with about 30% of the market share. The company headquarters is in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, with other offices in New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Raipur. The firm also has operations and offices in Singapore, Hong Kong and Tianjin, China.

History

The company was founded in 1961 by Mr. SK Sarawagi. It is the only company that has been exporting from the year 1961 without any breaks from the port of Visakhapatnam, on the East Coast of India. Till the late 90's, it was only manganese ore that they were producing and trading. The group was one of the very first private sector companies to commence exports of iron ore fines starting from Haldia(India) and Paradip(India). The company were shipping on average 3 million tones of iron ore fines from India till 2011 when the brakes were applied by the Government of India to control the exports of iron ore.

Mining

The Sarawagi group has altogether a total of 12 mines, 8 of which are functioning. As mining extends deeper into the mines, the greater amount of material is lumps; it is expected that 80% of the estimated 20,000 mt monthly production will be lumpy ore. At present the company is in the process of acquiring prospecting licenses for new 6 concessions from the Govt. of Andhra Pradesh, which is in the final stages of clearances and expected to be granted in 2015. The company has an inventory of mining machinery which includes: 150 Mercedes Benz dumpers, 40 Komatsu 450 hydraulic excavators, 20 Liugong front end loaders, 22 bulldozers of various capacities, and many Mercedes trucks and lorries. The company has a total resources of the current lease hold area of 5 million Tons and their current monthly production is 10,000 Tons.

SKSTPL. Shipping

In the recent years, the group has entered the shipping industry. It has bought 3 Japanese built Panamax vessels in the year 2011 called Glory one, Grace one and Prema One and trading worldwide. Within 12 months of its incorporation in 2008, SKSTPL has chartered over 35 ships, which include: Handysize, Handymax, Supramax and Panamax size ships with a total volume handled in excess of 6 million tone,and expects to handle over 10 million tons of cargo by 201. The company is specialised in handling bulk cargo - Iron ore, Manganese ore, Bauxite, Nickel ore and grains. It has also chartered over 200 bulk carriers since inception.

SK Diamond. Manufacturing Steel

The company entered the manufacturing steel industry in 2005. It built a steel producing factory in Raipur, the heart of steel industry in India. The factory produces TMT Rebars in size varying from 8mm to 32mm dia of Fe 415 and Fe 500 grades corresponding to IS 1786 quality. The factory produces 100,000 Tones of TMT rebars in a year. In recent years, the factory built a power generating plant that employees the used steam to produce electricity. The power plant produces 5 megawatts/day and of which the company uses 95% of it and the rest 5% is sold to the power grid.
