She has worked in many Kannada movies during 1980s. She debuted in Kannada through the 1980 movie Simha Jodi in which she played the role of Vishnuvardhan's sister. She is critically acclaimed for her roles in Kannada movies like Kamala, Haalu Jenu, Avala Antharanga, Marali Goodige, Trishoola, Ahuthi, Dharma and Bala Nouke. Her role as prostitute in Kamala brought her critical appreciation from the audience and is still remembered. She has won Karnataka State Film Award for Best Actress for her stellar performance in Avala Antharanga during the year 1984-85.
She has worked with almost all leading actors of her time including Dr.Rajkumar, Kalyan Kumar, Vishnuvardhan, Srinath, Ambarish, Ananth Nag, Shankar Nag and Lokesh in Kannada. She has paired with matinee idol Dr.Rajkumar in Haalu Jenu, Samayada Gombe and Yarivanu which were huge success critically and commercially. She stopped acting after Gandendre Gandu with Ambarish in 1989. She returned to silver screen through Karnana Sampattu starring Ambarish in 2005.
Roopa made a comeback to films with Jarasandha, the 2011 Kannada film as the mother of Duniya Vijay. Dr.Rajkumar holds the distinction of having played the hero to both Roopa(in 3 movies) and her mother Advani Lakshmi Devi(in Sri Ramanjaneya Yuddha).
