Shri Raj Kumar Rai was a Lok Sabha member from 1984–89 represented Ghosi. He was also Member of (i) Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly, 1980–85, (ii) Public Accounts Committee, 1983-84.

Biography

Born on bhumihar family 1 January 1939, in Surajpur Village of Mau district UP.After completing his early education in village he went to varansi whwere he completed his higher education M.A., LL.B from the Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi.He was a famous advocate in Azamgarh civil court.first he joind congress party and worked as MLA in UP legislative assembly.In 1984 he was elected a member of parliament from ghosi loksabha.Mr. Rajeev gandhi was the prime minister of india at that time.After some years he resigned from the membership of loksabha and from congress party.Then he joined Vishwanath pratap singh's janta dal and became its national secretary.He contested several loksabha elections and fought for the cause of socialism.After that he came in contact with Samajvadi party supremo Shree Mulayam singh yadav and joined Samajvadi party.He became the chairman of Uttar pradesh beej pramanikaran nigam(eqivalent to cabinet minister). He was married to Smt. Lalita Devi Rai with whom he had 4 children(2 son 2 daughters). He was a great leader,Political & Social Worker and Lawyer; jailed twice on the occasion of arrest of Smt. Indira Gandhi in 1977. he was quite popular among local people because of his helping nature.He was a soft spoken leader.He was a leader of poors.He was very serious for the education of girls and the education of his villagers.He established many educational schools and colleges his village and in his district.Really he was the hero of Mau's politics.

Death

He died on 24 September 2012, aged 73.His last rituals was performed at muktidham Dohrighat.
