The Prealps East of the Mur (German: Randgebirge östlich der Mur, Italian: Prealpi ad est della Mura) are mountain group number 47 in the Eastern Alps according to the Alpine Club classification of the Eastern Alps (AVE).

Contents

The range includes the eastern foothills of the Austrian Central Alps and the Eastern and Southeastern Foreland.

Boundary and neighbouring rangesEdit

The boundary of the Prealps East of the Mur runs as follows:

  • along the edge of the Vienna Woods in the northeast
  • to the Gutenstein Alps along the line Steinfeld–Neunkirchen–Ternitz
  • along the edge of the Rax-Schneeberg Group following the line from Ternitz via Gloggnitz to Schottwien over the Semmering Pass to Mürzzuschlag in the Mürz valley
  • from Mürzzuschlag to Bruck an der Mur bordering the Hochschwab Group
  • along the edge of the Lavanttal Alps separated by the River Mur as far as Spielfeld
  • its eastern boundary is vague but runs along Hungarian Plain, the Neusiedler See and via Bruck an der Leitha in the Vienna Basin
