It is located on the Continental Divide and is part of the Bow Range of the Canadian Rockies. The mountain sits between Lake Louise Valley and Cataract Brook, bordering both Banff and Yoho national parks.
The mountain was first climbed in 1903 by George Collier and his brother Joseph, guided by Christian Kauffman. It was originally known as "Boundary Peak", since the Continental Divide and therefore the British Columbia-Alberta border goes through the mountain, which is just south of Kicking Horse Pass.
