In 2012 Kettering High School closed, and some students were rezoned to Pershing.

The school is currently managed by the Education Achievement Authority (EAA), which took over control of the school in 2012.

In 2014 a teacher used a broom to attempt to break up a fight between two students; as a result, she was fired by the EAA. A video of the fight had been posted online. Later the EAA offered her back a job, but she declined, and in 2015 she sued the EAA in federal court.
