Penny Park


Penny Park, born in Montreal, Quebec is a Canadian journalist and science writer from Toronto, Ontario. She is the founding executive director of the Science Media Centre of Canada a non-profit charitable organization set up to inform public debate with accurate science. Penny Park holds a BA in Linguistics from the University of New Brunswick and a BSc in Biology from the University of Guelph.

In 2013 she was awarded an honorary doctoral degree, D. Litt., at the University of the Fraser Valley. Penny Park is an experienced radio and TV producer. She worked for many years at Quirks and Quarks, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation’s flagship radio science show and helped develop the nightly television program now known as Daily Planet on Discovery Channel. She has also contributed to UNEP’s yearbooks that give updates on selected global environmental issues.

Honours

Penny Park is the 2014 recipient of the Sandford Fleming Medal from the Royal Canadian Institute for her commitment to excellence and innovation in Canadian science media.
