The Penghu Aquarium (Chinese: 澎湖水族館; pinyin: Pēnghú Shuǐzúguǎn) is an oceanarium in Baisha Township, Penghu County, Taiwan.

History

The oceanarium was established in 1997 for the Fisheries Research Institute to study local marine ecology.

Architecture

The oceanarium covers over an area of 2 hectares of land. The main building is surrounded by gardens and sculpture of various types of marine creatures. The building is a 2-story building with 3 main sections, consists of seashore exhibition area, reef exhibition area and ocean exhibition area. There is also an underwater tunnel with a walkway in an encased glass. The main architect for this building, Barney Thorne, engineered the huge fish tank inside which caters to a large variety of exotic fish.

Exhibition

The oceanarium is home to over 200 species of fish from water within 800 km radius from Baisha covering Taiwan Strait and South China Sea.

Opening time

The oceanarium is opened everyday from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.
