Shiva Festival
The Festival in the Temple of Lord Siva here is very famous which is celebrated from 1 to 12 Kumbham . There is a Knanaya Catholic Church in the town named St. Anne's Church.

There is a mosque also the presence of which signifies the harmonious co-existence of the people. People of Hindu, Christian and Muslim religions live here in utmost communal harmony. Transportation
The national highway passes through Taliparamba town. Mangalore and Mumbai can be accessed on the northern side and Cochin and Thiruvananthapuram can be accessed on the southern side. The road to the east connects to Mysore and Bangalore. The nearest railway station is Kannur on Mangalore-Palakkad line. There are airports at Mangalore and Calicut.
Oottu Festival at Shiva Temple
The Oottufestival at the temple of Lord Shiva is the unique celebration of the village. It is celebrated from 1 to 12 of Kumbam, the 7th month as per the Malayalam Calendar, every year. People, irrespective of caste and religion, come to celebrate this festival. People from Kodagu district (Karnataka) also come for the festival with offerings. The Festival starts on February 12 (Makaram 30) and ends on February 24 (Kumbham 12). The Festival is considered as 'Sangamma' of the people from Kodagu and Kerala. Before the commencement of the festival devotees from Kodagu arrive at the temple with their cattle and offerings of rice that is used 'Prasada oota' for festival time. A variety of legends exist on the beginnings of this festival.

As of 2011 India census, Payyavoor had a population of 22,998 with 11,373 males and 11,625 females.
Geography
Payyavoor is a hilly village on the eastern side of Kannur district. The terrain is undulating in nature and the extreme eastern side has forests bordering Karnataka state.
Alex Nagar
Alex Nagar is a suburb of Payyavoor at a distance of five kilometers on Sreekandapuram road. Valapattanam river passes through this village. There is one church, one mosque and one temple in Alex nagar.
