Pardes Mein Hai Mera Dil tells the story of Raghav and Naina, two individuals with a golden heart, who are fated to meet and fall in love in a foreign land, but destined to face challenges before their ultimate union.
Plot
The series introduces Naina Batra, a strong-willed, smart twenty-seven-year-old woman from Mumbai whose life revolves around her ailing mother, Asha Batra. Naina is on an airplane heading abroad when she opens up to a judgmental fellow passenger about her past. She shares how difficult it was for her to leave her sick mother behind, and how after her father’s death, she became the bread winner of the house and her mother’s sole support. Naina talks about her love affair with Amit Melhotra, which struggled because Naina devoted most of her time to her ailing mother instead of their relationship. The two end up working through their differences and decide to get engaged, but on their engagement day, they find that Amit’s mother doesn't support their union. Angrily, she shares that she doesn't believe Naina will go to Austria to live with Amit because she will never leave her mother. Naina's mother overhears this conversation and as a consequence, suffers a heart attack. While recovering, she convinces Naina not to worry about her and to go overseas to be with fiancé Amit.
We are introduced to the Mehra's, a wealthy Indian family settled in Austria which owns the "Mehta Group of Industries", run by chairperson Indumati Lala Mehra. Her family includes her two sons, two daughters-in-laws and an elder grandson named Veer Mehra, who is the CEO of the company. We also meet Raghav Mehra, a distant relative of the Mehra family who lost his parents in childhood, and was brought up by Indu Mehra as her own grandson. Raghav is a carefree, optimistic and jovial young man who loves the Mehra's as his own family, but save for Indu, no one in the family considers Raghav a member of their family and he's treated like a servant. Raghav doesn't seem to mind the way they treat him and is works happily at their service. Raghav works for Veer at the Mehra Group of Industries, and since the latter is shown to have no interest in business, instead partying often with friends, Raghav often covers for Veer without anyone finding out in the Mehra family.
Naina meets Raghav for the first time and he helps her to find her brother's house in Austria, and soon they find themselves running into one another by coincidence.
Parameshwari (Pam), Indumati's second daughter-in-law wants Veer to marry her niece Sanjana but Veer is not interested and ignores Sanjana. Raghav, on the other hand, is attracted to Sanjana but is unable to let his feelings be known to an oblivious Sanjana who ignores him.
The latter part of the story tells of the fated love between Raghav and Naina in a foreign land, that's destined to face challenges before their union. Naina's sister-in-law (the wife of her brother Rajeev), Chanchal, is seemingly involved in an accident with Veer Mehra's car, however, Naina overhears her brother and her discussing plans to get money out of the Mehras. Realizing the deception for money plot, Naina tells the police that there was no accident and the case is closed.
Impressed with her honesty, Indumati asks Naina to marry Veer, a proposal she reluctantly agrees to. Veer is not interested in the marriage but has agreed to it for his grandmother and for the property it will give him.
On the day of their marriage, Indumati learns to her horror that Veer has run away and she asks Raghav to sit in his place. Raghav complies and after the marriage ceremony, Naina is unbelievably upset to learn she has been married to a different man. Veer returns and admits that he never wanted the marriage, and Indumati angrily tells him to leave the Mehra house.
Naina does not trust Raghav after discovering that he sat in Veer's place, and refuses to allow him to explain the reason behind it. Over time however, Indumati tells Naina that Raghav is a great man and Naina's opinion of him softens. It is during this time that everyone, including Naina, learns of Sanjana's pregnancy. Sudha, Veer's mother, tells Naina that Raghav was madly in love with Sanjana which leads Naina to mistakenly believe she Raghav is the father of Sanjana's child.
Later, this misunderstanding is cleared up when Raghav tells Naina that Veer is actually the father of Sanjana's child. Raghav then convinces Indumati to let Veer stay in the Mehra house and arrange his marriage with Sanjana. In truth, Sanjana's pregnancy is a lie she fabricated in order to facilitate her marriage to Veer.
Veer plans to defame Naina but Raqhav foils his plans. Indumati comes to find out that Sanjana is not pregnant and that the entire Mehra family has been lying to her. The Mehra family responds by openly showing their hatred for her and as a result, Indumati has cardiac arrest and enters to coma. The Mehra family blames Naina for causing the cardiac arrest in front of Raghav, and they tell both of them to leave the house. Indumati names Mehra house's outhouse in Raghav's name.
The Mehra family sells Raghav's patent to a businessman, upsetting him. In response, Naina goes to the businessman's office to ask about getting the patent back and he offers it for 20 thousand Euros.
Naina later meets with a girl named Ahana who shares that she is looking for a surrogate mother to have a child. After much consideration, Naina agrees to be the surrogate mother in exchange for 80 thousand Euros which will cover the payment for Raghav's patent.
Raghav finds out about Naina's surrogate pregnancy and mistakenly believes that she is pregnant with another man's child. To his anger, Naina does not dispute this in order to keep secret her plans to buy back his patent, which she does, returning Raghav's patent back to him.
Three months later, Raghav has become a rich businessman as a result of his patent and has bought the Mehra house at an auction. Naina has gone back to India, gotten a job, and stays in a rental home. Raghav comes to India as her company's client.
