Mayathi Devi Temple

Mayathi Devi temple is located in Balanathode village near Panathur. According to the legends, this temple is one of the most sacred places of India. This shrine is dedicated to the Adhiparasakthi or Santhasworoopini or Ohmkaram. The temple is built in an area of 36 acres of land.Lots of ancient stories are surrounded in that place. Navarathri pooja is the main celebration of the temple.

Balanthode village

Balanthode is a small near Panathur in Kasaragod district, Kerala province, India. It is 21 km from Kasaragod. The town lies in the road from Kanhangad to Madikeri in Karnataka province. This village is very shaded and silent. The people were very friendly and talkative. They explained that a kind of refined culture prevails in that village because most of the people belongs to upper caste Nair Hindus. The village is dominated by Nair schools and community organizations. A small number of lower caste Hindus, Christians and Muslims are also around.

Thuloorvanath Temple

Thuloorvanath Bhagavathi Temple at Kizhakekoolom is another visitor attraction. The main deities here are Thuloorvanath Bhagavathi and Munnayariswaran. There is a Kaliyattam festival on Shivarathri night every year. It is celebrated for eight days with 101 Theyyam performances.

Transportation

There is a 20 km road from Panathur to Sullia in Karnataka from where Bangalore and Mysore can be easily accessed. Locations in Kerala can be accessed by driving towards the western side. The nearest railway station is Kanhangad railway station on Mangalore-Palakkad line. There are airports at Mangalore and Calicut.
