Padmalaya is a village in a mountainous area. It is situated 10 km from Erandol in the Jalgaon district of Maharashtra and 31.5 km from Jalgaon. 'Padmalaya' in Sanskrit "padmasya Alaya" means "Home of Lotus". Padmalaya has a temple of Lord Ganesha.

Near the temple there is "Bhim Kunda" a 2 leg mark shape ponds in a 'Anjani river' around 1 km from Padmalaya in a Padmalaya Temple Reservoir.

Importance and status

Padmalaya is one of the two and a half 'Shree Ganapati Peeth' in India, this place is regarded as the half Peeth. Padmalaya is blessed with the two self-existent "Swayambhu" Ganesh idols in the sanctum, named "Aamod" and "Pramod", There are two (Swayambhu) Ganesh idols. These idols consisted of Coral (Praval). One idol has its trunk (Sond) curving to the right and the other to the left.

These idols were "Swayambhu" literally meaning self existed. Temple is totally built using stones. There is a large pond beside the temple and this pond used to be full of lotus flowers. Hence the place got the name of "Padmalaya".

This temple is located at the top of a hill. There are small temples on all sides of the main temple. The padukas of Shree Govind Maharaj are located in front of the temple. There is a huge bell 440 kg next to the padukas.
History
Padmalaya also known, as "Prabhakshetra" is a religious place. It is famous for the temples of Lord Ganapati and Hanuman. According to legend, the warrior Bhim has had a battle with Rakshas Bakasur and Bakasur was killed by Bhim. Bhim was very thirsty after the wrestling so he had hit his elbow very forcefully on the ground to form a small pond of fresh water. The place is called bhimkund and is near to the Padmalaya temple. Bhimkund is a very beautiful place with lots of herbs and medicinal plants around the vicinity of Padmalaya Temple Reservoir.
Pandav
The vanavas pandavs stayed in Erandol (ancient name was Ekchakranagari). They built a palace with Lacquer. This is called as Pandav wada and believed it has many secret routes leading to nearby forests. This Pandav wada was later burnt by kaurav to kill Pandavs. The remaining are still lying there in erandol city.
