Namkum (Hindi: नामकुम Nāmkum) is one of the 20 administrative blocks of the city of Ranchi in the state of Jharkhand. It belongs to Khijri Assembly Constituency. It is spread over an area of 415.57 km2 (160.45 sq mi). There are 23 panchyats and a total of 109 villages, out of which 104 are inhabited and the rest 5 are not.here the pragya kendra tatisilwai has got best pragya kendra in Jharkhand award at 15 national e-governence at orissa.

History
Geologically, it belongs to the Archean age of granite gneissic formation. Other rocks are amphibolite, khondalite, mica schist, etc.
Geography
Namkum is located at 23°21'N 85°22'E. The total area under Namkum Block is 415.57 km2 (160.45 sq mi) and the average elevation is 629 m (2,064 ft) above sea level. Most parts of the total area are considered rural since it is in the outskirts of the city. Situated in the eastern end of Ranchi, Namkum has a large cover of forests and areable land. But these are being depleted to give space to the expanding city.
Demographics
As of 2001 India census, Namkum has a population of 1,14,397 with 58,968 males and 55,429 females 48.7%. Namkum has an average literacy rate of 61.10%(census 2001): male literacy is 74.6%, and female literacy is 46.6%. In Namkum, SC Population is 5753 (2984 males and 2769 females) and the ST population is 72276 (36680 males and 35596 females). The population below 7 years of age is 19403 (9867 males and 8757 females).
Roadways
NH-33 and SH-01 pass through Namkum connecting major cities in the east such as Kolkata and Jamshedpur. A new ring road and an over-bridge is under construction in the area to reduce the growing traffic overload on the roads.
Railways
Namkom Station (not Namkum), station code NKM, is the railway station serving the Namkum block of the capital city of Ranchi in the Ranchi district in the Indian state of Jharkhand. It belongs to the Ranchi division of the South Eastern Railway Zone of the Indian Railways.
Airways
The nearest airport is the Birsa Munda Airport of Ranchi. It has direct flights from Patna, Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata. Major airlines like Kingfisher Airlines, Air India, Jet Lite, GoAir and Jet Airways serve this purpose
