Marriyum Aurangzeb (Urdu: مریم اورنگزیب) is a Pakistani politician who is the current Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, in office since August 2017 A member of the Pakistan Muslim League (N), Aurangzeb previously served as Minister of State for Information in the third Sharif ministry from 2016 to 2017. She was educated at the Federal Government College, Islamabad and Quaid-e-Azam University and later attended the King's College London in the United Kingdom.

Prior to entering politics, she worked as a development practitioner with the WWF. She has been a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan on a reserved seat for women since 2013.

Early life and education

Aurangzeb was born to Tahira Aurangzeb.

Aurangzeb did her graduation from the Federal Government College in Islamabad and went to receive a M.A in economics from the Quaid-e-Azam University. She later moved to London, where she received a master's degree from the King's College London in environmental and development policy.

Prior to entering politics, Aurangzeb worked as the head of corporate relations at the WWF Pakistan. She also served as a board member of LEAD Pakistan in 2013.
Political career

In general election, 2013, Aurangzeb was appointed as the member of the National Assembly of Pakistan on a reserved seats for women.
Reportedly, Aurangzeb have worked closely with Maryam Nawaz and was a part of Maryam`s team overseeing the education sector. She has been the Parliamentary Secretary for Interior. She has been a member of Standing Committee on Climate Change, member of Standing Committee on Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage and Chief Organiser of Youth Women Wing, Islamabad, and Rawalpindi. She specialises in strategic thinking and planning and development for environmental conservation, development and international agreements and Millennium Development Goals implementation.
In October 2016, she was appointed as the Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting. She was made in charge of the Ministry of Information after Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid was sacked for failing to stop a media report on a rift between the Government of Pakistan and the Pakistan Army. She had ceased to hold ministerial office in July 2017 when the federal cabinet was disbanded following the resignation of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif after Panama Papers case decision.
Following the election of Shahid Khaqan Abbasi as Prime Minister of Pakistan in August 2017, she was inducted into the federal cabinet of Abbasi. She retained cabinet portfolio of Minister of State for Information.
