Mahni Khera (also known as Mani Khera) is a village in India. It is located in North India's state of Punjab and is in the District of Muktsar. People of different castes live there. The majority of them are Sikh.

The famous Punjwood actor Gugu Gill is a resident of Mahni Khera and he is the son of late Sardar Surjit Singh Gill. Many people from Mahni Khera are now in different parts of the world. According to the 1991 census, the total population of the village was 1648. Dr. Rajpal Singh was regarded as the best doctor in the village. The village has a flour mill by the name "Ambu Ki Chaki." The quality of the "Atta" (wheat flour) is exceptional.

Etymology

Mahni Khera was named after the name of the Muslim leader of the village, Muhammad Mahni Khan. The famous Punjabi Film PUTT JATTAN DE was shot in this village. Another Punjabi film Gabhroo Punjab Da and CHHOHRA HARYANAE KA was also made in Mahni Khera.

Effect of partition

After the partition of Pakistan and India 1947, Muslims left the village. There is no evidence that Muslims were being persecuted in the village at the time, but the villages nearby were attacked, and Muslims left the village because of worry over being targeted.

People of different surnames live there; the main surnames are Gill, Hari, Brar, Sandhu and Punia. The majority of the people of Mahnikhera are Jatt and Sikh, as well as the people who migrated from Pakistan during the partition of 1947. many of the residents of Mahni Khera have to leave their village in 1947, but they still live in the hearts of old villagers.

Subedar Hans Singh Brar - Kavishri Kla Ratan, Youngest Shagird of the famous Babu Rajab Ali khan, Got innumerable awards for his writings. He is a well-known personality not only in the state but overseas too.

Kuljeet Sekhon (Bavly) – a Ph.D scholar - assistant Professor in Education, University School of Open Learning (USOL) www.puchd.ac.in {earlier known as Department of Correspondence studies, Punjab University, Chandigarh and author of Punjabi poetry books "Satrangi" , "Tere Ghar Di Deewar" and "KirmachiDhage" was born at Mahni Khera. Published many research books and research papers in Education. She obtained her PhD degree in Education On Occupational Stress, Mental Health and Coping Resources of Teachers..     Location

    Mahni Khera is located 18 km from Malout and 48 km from Sri Muktsar Sahib city. It is located in development block Lambi. Near about villages are Sham Khera, Bhai ka Kera, Baloch Kera, Burj Sidhwan, Bahadhur Khera, Gaddandob, Ratta Khera, Sitogunno etc. the name of school staff members of Government Middle School is - Mr.Naveen Chaudhary, Mr.Ashok Kumar, Mr.Rajit Kumar, S.Amrik Singh, Sh. Hemant Sharma, S. Davinder Singh. Mr. Naveen Chaudhary is the first person in this village who has graduation degree in biotechnology and post graduation in microbiology.

    Gurudwara

    The village has one newly built Gurudwara sahib. Earlier Gurdwara sahib was in an old Mosque, after partition as no Muslim family remained there, so people converted Mosque into Sri Gurdwara Sahib. Panj peer place is also near this village.

    Education

    The village has one middle school "Govt middle school, Mahni Khera". Closest sen. sec. the school is also available at village Sham Khera. One private school is also serving the students.
