Early life

Peat hails from Royal Tunbridge Wells, England, and grew up there. As a child, he observed the Battle of Britain unfold during the Second World War in 1940 from the town.

Education and career

Initially, Peat was unsure whether to take up ordained ministry. However, he eventually decided to, and was educated at Lincoln Theological College and ordained in 1958. After a curacy at Bramley he served incumbencies in Stockport, Leeds, Southend-on-Sea, Longsleddale and Kirkby Lonsdale.

Post retirement

Peat now attends St Mary's Church, Whitkirk, Leeds, where his youngest son is the Priest in Charge. He has preached there for sung Sunday morning Eucharists on several occasions.
