Dennis began playing in the youth teams of Football League Two club Macclesfield Town. He participated for Macclesfield Town U18 in the Third Round of the 2006–07 FA Youth Cup, starting in a 3–0 away defeat against Everton U18 on 4 January 2007. Dennis was replaced by Christopher Dykes in the 60th minute of the fixture. During his time at Macclesfield Town U18, Dennis was coached by John Askey, and would play alongside Wayne Rooney's younger brother, John Rooney, as well as Nick Blackman, Matthew Flynn, Shaun Brisley and Christian Millar.

Dennis made his debut for Macclesfield Town first-team in a 3–0 away defeat to Rotherham United in the 2007–08 Football League Two season on 1 January 2008, Dennis was substituted onto the field in the 89th minute. Dennis participated for Macclesfield Town U18 in the Third Round of the 2007–08 FA Youth Cup, scoring with a header in a 2–1 away defeat against Sunderland U18 at the Stadium of Light on 23 January 2008. John Rooney crossed the ball into Dennis who headed Macclesfield's only goal in the second half of the match.

In November 2008, Dennis joined Northern Premier League outfit Ashton United to gain additional game time. He made his debut on 15 November where he was substituted onto the field against Cammell Laird. Upon his return to Macclesfield Town for the 2008–09 Football League Two season, Dennis scored his first goal for the club in a 2–1 home victory against Barnet on 25 April 2009. Dennis was substituted onto the field in the second half and had only been on the field for ten minutes before scoring the winning goal, converting the ball into the net from a Macclesfield corner which had not been cleared by the Barnet defence. In November 2009 he went on loan again, this time to Woodley Sports, a move which was extended for a second month, before he returned to Macclesfield in mid-January 2010. He regularly found the net whilst on loan including a hat-trick against Radcliffe Borough.

On 14 May 2010, it was reported that Macclesfield Town had released Dennis, as well as eleven other players, at the conclusion of the 2009–10 Football League Two season.

Woodley Sports and Mossley

He later joined Woodley Sports, scoring 12 goals for them before joining Mossley in November 2010. He made his debut for Mossley on 13 November as a substitute against Harrogate RA, before scoring his first goals for the club in his first start on 23 November as they beat Trafford 6–0 in a league match.

Curzon Ashton

Dennis signed for Curzon Ashton in June 2011 from Mossley. He made his debut on 13 August 2011 in a 1–0 win over Radcliffe Borough. Dennis didn't have to wait long for his first Curzon goal, scoring in a 2–0 away win at Warrington Town, in the following league game. All in all Kristian amassed a total of 67 goals in 65 games for the club.

Stockport County

Dennis signed for Stockport County in May 2013 from Curzon Ashton. He impressed in Stockport's 2013–14 pre-season games netting 12 goals in 11 games which included a spectacular volley on 3 August 2013 against Halifax Town. Since the start of the 2013–14 season Kristian has played 4 games scoring twice. Dennis had a slow start to the season but turned his form around after a brace against Telford United in a 4–2 victory. He later scored his first hat-trick for Stockport in a 5–1 away win against Gainsborough Trinity.

Return to Macclesfield Town

On 24 June 2015, Dennis returned to Macclesfield Town on a season-long loan from Stockport County after being transfer- and loan-listed by Neil Young. He scored his first league goal back at the club on 15 August 2015: in the 2–1 win against Welling, within the first minute of the second half, Dennis shot through a crowd of players from the left side of the box to the centre of the goal with a left-footed shot.

On 24 October 2015, Dennis scored a brace in the 3–2 home win against National League North side Alfreton in the fourth round qualifier of the FA Cup, scoring the opener in the 5th minute when Danny Whitaker crossed into the path of Dennis who finished past the keeper into the bottom left corner from 16 yards; he scored the 3rd goal of the game on 37 minutes, Whitaker again feeding the ball to him in the penalty area and Dennis drilled the ball home.

On 7 November 2015, Dennis scored an equalizer against Portsmouth in the 1st round proper of the FA Cup; however, Portsmouth went on to win the game 2–1.

Chesterfield

On 10 May 2016, Dennis signed for League One team Chesterfield after his contract at Stockport County came to an end. He scored his first goal for Chesterfield in an EFL Trophy tie against Wolves Under-23s on 30 August 2016, and scored his first league goal in his first start in Chesterfield's 3–1 victory against Northampton Town on 17 September 2016.
