Karen Mowat

Karen Mowat was probably born at Tysnes in Sunnhordland. She was the daughter of admiral Axel Mowat (1592–1661) and his wife Karen Knudsdatter Bildt (d. 1662). Her father was the largest land owner in western Norway. Following the death of her two brothers, she was the sole heir to her parent's estate. She was married to Ludvig Rosenkrantz, the first Baron of Rosendal with whom she developed Barony Rosendal at Kvinnherad in Hordaland. They were the parents of four sons and five daughters.
