Biography

A graduate of U.C. Berkeley in 1972, Cotner worked in the marketing field for 25 years. Her earlier experience in marketing and managing also included working as an Eastern Regional Manager for Sullivan Language Schools, where she was responsible for the profits and losses for six schools. Before her writing career commenced in 1992, Cotner was the Business and Marketing Manager for Myrvang Architects.

Cotner moved to the Pacific Northwest in 1976 and has appeared on national radio programs and the television programs “New Day Northwest” (Seattle), “AM Northwest” (Portland, OR), “Good Day Sacramento,” and “The God Squad” (Long Island, NY). Her books have been featured in many national publications, including USA Today, Better Homes and Gardens, Woman's Day, Family Circle, and Good Housekeeping.

As a hobby, Cotner began collecting mealtime thoughts and sayings when her children were young, for the purpose of finding “more ways to express graciousness and gratitude around the table.” This collection was augmented by fresh material from award-winning poets and eventually became her first anthology, Graces: Prayers and Poems for Everyday Meals and Special Occasions (HarperOne).
