James R. Barnett (May 31, 1842 – January 20, 1917) was a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly.

Biography

Barnett was born on May 31, 1842 in what is now Pewaukee, Waukesha County, Wisconsin. He later resided in Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin and became a schoolteacher. During the American Civil War, he served with the 1st Wisconsin Volunteer Cavalry Regiment of the Union Army. Afterwards, Barnett graduated from Rush Medical College in 1868 resided in Neenah, Wisconsin. He died on January 20, 1917 after an illness of one month.

Political career

Barnett was elected to the Assembly in 1908. In addition, he was superintendent of schools, a member of the Neenah board of education, and the dean of the local medical fraternity. He was a Republican.
