Personal life

He is the third eldest of the five Sidek brothers. Jalani and his siblings gained exposure about badminton sport from their father, Haji Mohd Sidek. Growing up with a support system that revolved around Badminton, Jalani became a walking proof for one of the most uplifting sportsmen in his era. Under the guidance of his father, Jalani and the rest of his siblings were trained to be champions. Jalani Sidek is the alumnus of Victoria Institution (batch 1976-1980).
Career

He won the bronze medal together with his brother Razif in the doubles competition at the 1992 Summer Olympics. The Sidek brothers became the first ever Olympic medalists for their country since first participation at Melbourne 1956. During his career with his brother Razif, they won several local and international championship titles. The most memorable was when he became the youngest player to win the All England Championship title in 1982.

After he retired as badminton player, he established a badminton club to find talented new players, called Nusa Mahsuri Club, which he has been an advisor to since 1996. He was also responsible in grooming the Hashim brothers, Roslin and Hafiz to become Malaysian national badminton players.
