It started as a spin off of the show Benefits Street, originally set for six episodes, but reduced due to protest from local residents.
Concerns from the community
The local police asked to view the series before it is aired, concerned that the show could make Derby Road a target for far-right groups.
A Member of Parliament for Southampton Test, Alan Whitehead, stated that over 95% of the people in the area questioned about this, were opposed to the filming, and concerned how their community would be portrayed.
The chair of the Southampton City Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), Bitterne GP Steve Townsend, said: “We wholeheartedly support the local community in its condemnation of the programme especially as the potential harm it will do will outweigh any public interest.”
