Plot

Empress Ki (TV series) Empress Ki TV series Wikipedia

The series revolves around Ki Seung-nyang, a Goryeo-born woman who ascends to power despite the restrictions of the era's class system, and later marries Tahwan to become an empress of the Yuan dynasty, instead of her first love, Wang Yu. The series depicts her loves and political ambitions.

Historical distortions controversy

This debate was one of historical distortion. Korean historians were worried that the audience would overlook that the real-life Empress Ki was responsible for attacking her native land. Because her group of families tyrannised and invaded Goryeo, the Empress Ki is a person to blame. But this drama distorted her into great person and a brave female warrior and presents a very severe distortion of her life.
