Charlie Grosso (born January 3, 1979) is a Taiwanese American photographer, writer, brand consultant, adventure traveler, and gallery owner based out of New York City. She is best known for her documentary photo series "Wok the Dog." This project, 10 years in the making, spans 120 cities, 42 countries, and 5 continents. The series documents food markets and street scenes in Asia, Europe, Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East and has been exhibited worldwide.

Biography

Grosso was born in Taipei, Taiwan, in 1979. At age 11, she moved to the United States, and lived in the San Fernando Valley in Southern California. She received her BA in Theatre & Production Design from the University of Southern California. After USC, she chose to pursue a different course than the post-graduate studies available to her and began to work as an advertising photographer in fashion and music. Grosso currently lives in New York City.

Career

Photography In addition to her award winning documentary photography series "Wok the Dog," Grosso owns and operates Charlie Grosso Photography, a company started in 2001 that works primarily in advertising. A few clients she has worked with includes; Nike, Lexus, Suzuki, Urban Outfitters, Nissan, Paramount Pictures, Puma, Speedo, Comedy Central, and Target.

Baang & Burne Grosso is Founder and Executive Director of the contemporary "roaming gallery". Started with 2010 with Kesha Bruce, she worked with over 20 artists based throughout the world, curated and produced over 37 exhibits and events including, Art Basel Miami and Armory Week in NYC. Recent exhibitions include: Film Screening, Maria the Korean Bride, Harpoon: Dallas + NYC. A Two City Exhibition for Joshua King, Boys Don’t Cry: A Three Person Exhibit in NYC, and 6x6: Six Exhibits in Six Weeks, NYC.

Adventure Traveling & Writing Grosso has traveled to over 70+ countries and 6 continents. In 2012 she completed The Mongol Rally as the only solo woman to complete the cross contienent small car rally, from London to Ulaanbaatar. In 20-14, she raced in another charity rally, The Rickshaw Run with Sherry Ott, driving an auto rickshaw from Kochi to Shillong. Her team raised $16,000 for charity:water.

She has written articles for various outlets on travel and culture, including, Yahoo Travel, The Express Tribune, Intrepid Travel, Stated Magazine, Creem Magazine, Maker and has been featured in The New Nomad by Travel + Escape, TIME Light Box, The New York Times Lens Blog, Gastronomica, Livid Magazine, Lenscratch, and Creative Hype.
