Chandra Nandini

Plot

The first scene of the show starts with Bharatmata introducing the show Chandra Nandini as the tale of Chandragupta Maurya and Nandini, his wife as well as the daughter of his greatest enemy.

Moora, the wife of Suryagupta, the king of the small province of Piplivana, is pregnant with Chandragupta. Suryagupta along with his wife are invited by his friend, King Shishunaga of Magadha. At the palace, pregnant Moora is wooed by a fellow 'napit' (barber), Nanda. For his wrongdoing, he is whipped by Rani Avantika, wife of Shishunaga; but later it is revealed that Avantika and Nanda are conspiring together to get the throne from Shishunaga and also Shishunaga's 9 sons through Avantika are actually Nanda's. Suryagupta and Moora came to know about this but could not aware Shishunaga about this miserable truth as he (Shishunaga) had already been killed by Nanda and the blame is put on Suryagupta. Nanda kills Suryagupta as well and Moora escapes into the jungle where she delivers Chandra and hides him in a goshala away from the clutches of Nanda. Chandra is then adopted by a common lady named Kanika. On the other hand, Moora is held captive by Nanda, who has now become the emperor of Magadha and has assumed the title of Maharaja Maha Padmananda and has married Avantika. He proposes Moora for marriage, but she rejects his proposal insulting him. She warns Nanda that her son will take her revenge on him and if Nanda would have a daughter, his daughter will have to suffer for his wrongdoings as well. Soon Avantika gives birth to Nanda's daughter, Nandni.

14 years later

Padmananda has become a very oppressive ruler, exploiting his praja (subjects) for more and more taxes. His only weakness is his daughter Nandini whom he loves more than his life. It is also due to Nandini that Nanda has spared the life of Avantika, whom he has now no interest in. Moora is still held captive by Nanda. On the other hand, Chandragupta has grown up as a commoner but holds great affection for his foster mother Kanika, even not hesitating to fight with his drunkard foster father to protect her from his rage and increasing pressure for handing over money. To support his mother financially, Chandra sets out for Pataliputra. He enters into Pataliputra with the special coin with (the royal mark of Magadh embedded on) that Mahaamatya (Prime Minister) of Magadh Rakshas had previously given him after being impressed with his noble values, his rich ideals and athletic skills. He then is shocked to see how cruel Nanda is, torturing his citizens severely for taxes. He then also finds Moora on the streets who was then being whipped by the soldiers of Nanda on his order. He somehow manages to protect Moora temporarily and then also receives a glance of Rajkumari Nandini. Meanwhile, Chanakya watches Chandragupta's activities and somewhere in his mind considers that Chandra can one day become the heavenly and mighty ruler of India he is searching for and can fulfill his dream of Akhanda Bharatvarsh . Chandra confronts Nanda about his wrongdoings but Nanda pay no heed to his agitation and gets him thrown out of his site. On the other hand, the Greek emperor, Alexander The Great with his soldiers intrudes into Hindustan aiming to conquer the land. Chanakya visits Raja Padmananda at his court to alarm him of the possibility of an invasion from the Greeks, but Nanda paying no attention to his alarming throws Chanakya out of the sabha after insulting him to be nothing but a beggar. Chanakya, before leaving, warns Nanda that his ambition will one day bring his downfall and Chanakya, whom Nanda insulted as a beggar, will be the one responsible for his decline. Chanakya teaches child Chandra all the skills of a king.

After Some Years

Chanakya sends Chandra to Greek to know about their war skills. From there he went to Parvatak, where he knows about the betrayal done by Malaykethu to Helena, daughter of Selecus Nicatus. With the help of Helena, Chandra learns Greek war skills. Then he escapes from them. He fought against Padmananda but failed. Then he attacked the Greeks left over in India after the death of Alexander. As a result of this, He marries Helena. Then he tried to attack Padmanand but failed. Then he tries again but fails again, then they gather a bigger army and Acharya Chanakya orders him to marry Durdhara, his childhood friend as her father is a rich merchant and can provide money for the well being of the army. After that he attacks again, this time in the end of the first day Chandra was about to kill Padmananda but failed to, as the day got over, the end of the next day Malaykethu who is supposed to be the fiancé of Nandini by deceit comes and stabs Chandra on his back but he survives the next day the army of Nanda becomes weak so he decides to run away from the field in a secret house behind a mountain, soon Malaykethu gets trapped by Helena and Chandra and tells them nanda's hiding place, Chandra then goes towards that place and Malaykethu puts sand in helena's eyes and runs away, then he finds nand, he is just about to kill him that Nandini appears there with her sword and tries to protect her father but fails to and then the soldiers get Nand's 8 sons (other than one who is mentally challenged) and Chandra kills them there in front of Nandini and Nand, Acharya decides to leave nand and nandini and they move on to a secret place where Nand has all of his wealth but then it is revealed that all this time Acharya was following them and then there Chandra kills Nand, then Nandini goes to the palace and tells all the mothers and her sister in-laws what happened. Moora is also freed and Chandra is now coronated as the king of Magadha. He is forced to get married to Nandini as it is revealed that Nand and 1 of his sons - Dhan are alive and if Chandra becomes Nandini's husband then he can't kill him as he cannot see his daughter as a widow then they do the first ritual which is also called the haldi (turmeric) ritual. In this ritual, the male side gives the female side their turmeric and vice versa then for revenge Nandini mixes poison in his haldi but the haldis are changed by Helena's mother as she gets to know about the turmeric then Durdhara who applies haldi on the face on Nandini, her hands burn as they have the poison in them, she then visits Chandra to show her hands and then Acharya gives Chandra a medicine which he goes picks up Nandini and puts her in the water and puts the medicine on her, then they marry and to perform a ritual called kanyadan in which a male has to give a gift to the bride and then it is revealed that they found Dhan moving near the palace and he does the kanyadan.Helena blackmails Nandini as she knows about Nand being alive.Later,Chandra and Nandini go to Peeplivana to meet chandra's grandmother.They also climb up a huge mountain for grandmother.After returning,Chayya's husband Suryajit dies. So,Chandra decides to get Chayya married again to Malayketu and he does. Malaykethu asks Nandini to support him in killing Chandra.She denies and informs Chandra. Chandra doesn't believe Nandini and in return tells her that Malayketu told him that Nandini is in love with him and doesn't wants to stay with Chandra. Nandini denies the fact but Chandra doesn't believe. Chandra gets to know that Durdhara is pregnant with his child. Unfortunately,Durdhara slips on oil and falls through the stairs.A lady examines her and tells about her condition to Chandra.Chandra tells everyone that Durdhara has had a misscarriage.He also tells that this is a planned act.He then runs a story to find the real culprit.He first blames Nandini without any proof.But,Later on comes to know that Gautami is the culprit.She is thrown out of the palace. He goes and apologizes to Nandini as he thought that she is the culprit and behaved rudely with her.He also tells that if she was not Nandini and he was not Chandra then their story would be different. He also tells her that he would respect her if she wasn't the daughter of nand. Chandra helps Nandini in order to disguise herself as men to get admission in the exam which was going to be held in Takshashila.Unfortunately a disciple finds out that Nandni is a lady and decides to take revenge from her and gives her a drink with alcohol in it.Chandra finds Nandni in drunken state and takes her to a secret cottage.It is now that she reveals that Padmanand is waiting for them on the temple road and will kill Chandra.But,in the morning after Chanakya gets to know about Nandni and reluctantly gives her the prize Nandni wantingly takes Chandra in a different path where Malykethus men attack him with Kalkut poison.Nandni takes Chandra to the palace and spends the whole night healing Chandra.After that Helena makes a plan to build a wall between Chandra and Nandni.She behaves well with Nandni and keeps telling Chandra that Nandni still likes Malaykethu.This makes Chandra jealous.Helena on the other hand shifts Nandnis room to the end and hers near Chandra.This makes Nandni jealous.Chandra and Nandni both have developed feeling for each other but are reluctant to admit. They both fight back their feelings for each other as they both consider each other as their enemy But,this is where comes the twist in the tale. Nandni's stepmother (Nandha's first wife) has a look alike of Nandni called Roopa. Helena's mother is also supporting her in this.Then it is revealed that Roopa is Nandini's twin sister and she has a character which is totally different from Nandini's. Her main aim is to seek revenge and to break her relationship with Chandra, mother, father and all others. She tries to come closer to Malaykethu in order to spread misunderstandings. Roopa is alcoholic and always she is seen smoking. She also has long nails which Nandini does not. when Roopa, Sunanda and Helena's mother tries to draw walls between Chandra and Nandini, Dadima tries to bring them closer.Now both Chandra and Nandini has feelings for each other, they won't show it outside. On the day of Moora's birthday Chandra gifts her his belongings which gives the complete memory of his childhood on Nandini's insistence; she says that for a mother her children is of foremost importance. Moora is deeply impressed by chandra's gift. Nandini decides to gift her a painting of Sooryagupt but Roopa exchanges it with a suhagan's dress. Moora is red in anger. Chandra decides to punish Nandini, meanwhile it is revealed by Kanika that her and Moora's gift from Nandini is exchanged. Moora apologizes to Nandini and an Utasv is organised that evening. Roopa is in anger on the failure of her plan decides to teach Nandini a lesson that evening. Meanwhile, Sunanda makes Nandini unconscious and Roopa drags Malayketu and dances with him in everyone's presence. All are very annoyed, especially Chhaya. Next day Nandini is not aware of what happened the previous day.Later,Roopa is seen intimating Malaykethu when Chhaya pops in and sees everything.Now,Chhaya is against Nandni.Later,Dhadhi maa say that the maharj and mukhya maharani of Magadh are supposed to do the Dhvaj Pooja.So,she does a competition between Helena and Nandni.But,Helena cheats with the help of Chhaya and wins.It so happens then that all the people fight that Nandni has to become mukhya Maharani.On people's insistence it happens.Then,Chandra and Nandni go to the village.Here,Chandra teaches here jow to get along with household works and so on.Now,they both come close.But,Chandra starts doubting Nandnis behaviour changes.Meanwhile,Roopa falls in love with Chandra.Few dacoits kidnap Nandni and a child for bali to their god.But,Chandra saves them.After returning Chandra gets to know that Nand has kidnapped Chanakyas daughter.Later,Roopa gets angry seeing Chandra and Nandnis closeness.She starts telling her mother that at any cost she will kill nandni.Chhaya hears this.She is about to go and inform this to Chandra while Roopa pushes her from the stairs and she has a misscarriage.Durdhara says that she saw Nandni pushing Chhaya.Nandni at the same time gets a medicine which has poison mixed by Roopa.Durdhara also says that the medicine also has poison.But,Chandra willing to prove that Nandni is innocent,drinks it.His condition is serious.But,recovers.He then calls Nandni and gives her Mrutyu Dhand(death punishment).It is then shown that a wall is built across Nandni.Dadimaa insists that chandra should think again because her heart says that Nandni has not done all this.........
