Chalisgaon  pronunciation  is a city and a municipal council in Jalgaon district in the state of Maharashtra, India.a beautiful town well known for its perfect planned architecture is situated on Mumbai-Delhi / Mumbai-Kolkata railway route and is a main junction Railway station.due to central location of Nasik,Aurangabad,Jalgaon and Dhule district it is rising as promising industrial growth centre in Maharashtra.

History

Chalisgaon is centrally located on the border of Nasik,Aurangabad,Jalgaon and Dhule district and was the administrative head quarter during British rule. due to pleasant climate the British administrators used to stay here to control the administrative work of above four districts. for the transportation and travelling purpose Chalisgaon was having domestic airport. now a days it is not operational and large residential area is developed on the same land.various great personalities like Jawaharlal Nehru, Dr.Babashaheb Ambedkar, Sane Guruji and Baba Amte are visited chalisgaon.

Geography

Chalisgaon is located at 20.47°N 75.02°E / 20.47; 75.02. It has an average elevation of 344 metres (1128 feet).It Is main Junction railway station and all major trains like Punjab mail,Vidarbha express, kolkata mail,Amritsar express,Kamayani express,Jhelum express,Nagpur-Pune super fast express,Shalimar express,Howrah Mail,Gorakhpur express,Kolhapur-Nagpur Maharashtra express,Bhusawal-Pune Hutatma express,Kushinagar Express,Pawan Express,Nanded-Amritsar Sachkhand super fast express,Sevagram express etc.are having their halt here.Surat-Hyderabad National highway (NH-211) is also passing through the city.the nearest airport Chikhalthana, Aurangabad is just 85 KM from the city.

Places to visit

World famous artist late Keki Moos is from Chalisgaon. he is well known for table top photography and painting. Piroja Manekji (name of his mother) art Gallery having around 3000 paintings is just in front of Chalisgaon Railway station to the west side.Shrine of Pir Musa kadri baba (Bamoshi baba) is another famous spot where pilgrims from all over India visits regularly. Ramdeo Baba temple is also famous and basically pilgrims from Rajshtan and Gujrat visits here on large basis. Patnadevi temple constructed in Hemad panthi architecture situated in the deep forestry of Gautal Autram ghat is just 18 KM from the city and is most beautiful place surrounded by sahyadri hills. Dhavalteerth waterfall,Sita nhani,Pitalkhora caves,Mahadeo Mandir,Lilavati vanoaushadhi kendra,Valjhiri etc. are the nearby place to visit.the great Mathematician Bhaskaracharya written the Granth Lilavati here.world famous Ellora caves are just 65 KM from Chalisgaon and travelers alight here for Ellora caves. good quality hotels and restaurants are available in the city.

Industrial Growth

Chalisgaon is known as one of Important industrial center in Jalgaon District. the city is having two industrial areas. one is at Dhule road which is co operative industrial estate and another is newly developed MIDC at Khadki just 3 KM from the city.various small and medium scale industries engaged in manufacturing of oil,plastic,pharmaceuticals,electrical,mechanical,food processing are running here successfully. NTC's Chalisgaon textile mill,Khandesh extractions,Belganga Sugar factory,V.H.Patel tobacco co.,Bharat wire ropes,Ambuja exports etc.are few of them.the Area is large producer of milk,banana and lime.the city is largest supplier of milk to the economical capital city Mumbai and various dairies engaged in this business are providing direct and indirect employment to the localites.

Economics

The surrounding area is largest producer of milk,banana and lime which gets exported to various parts of west and northern part of the country.due to this as well as employment to the almost all factors of society, the area is economically developed area. all major nationalized and private banks like State bank of India, Bank Of Baroda,Bank of Maharashtra,Bank of India,Dena Bank,ICICI bank,HDFC Bank,Axis Bank,IDBI Bank,Kotak Mahindra Bank,JDCC Bank,etc. are having their branches in the city and tahsil.There is only one Local Co-Operative Bank namely The Modern Co-Operative Bank ltd.at Samrat House Bhadgaon Road Chalisgaon.


The city is well known for the education. various primary,secondary and higher secondary schools are providing high class education to the students.some schools are affiliated to the the state board of education and some schools are affiliated to the the Central board of education(CBSE).the colleges providing education in the field of Arts,Science,commerce,Management,Medical and engineering are also available in the city and the local students do not need to go to the another city for their higher education.a very big District Library is one of example of better education facility in the city named Sheth Narayan Bankat vachanalaya which is old more than 100 years. The renowned Educationist and social Worker Bapusaheb Ashok Hari Khalane has founded many Educational Institutions like primary, secondary and junior college Arts and Science senior College, D.Ed., B. Ed. M.C.A.Samrat Ashok Polytechnic,Late Mandodari Khalane I.T.I.with a well developed Educational Campus called Samrat Ashok Educational Campus, Deraburdi Dhule Road Chalisgaon.

As of 2011 India census, Chalisgaon had a population of 97551. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Chalisgaon has an average literacy rate of 73%, higher than the national average of 59.5%, with male literacy of 79% and female literacy of 67%. 13% of the population is under 6 years of age.in 2017 the population of the city is around 1.5 Lakh.
