Career
A central defender by trade, Saraiva played his entire career in Portugal, primarily for lower league clubs which included Olhanense, Atlético CP, Amora, Marco, Barreirense and Olivais Moscavide.
On 1 May 2013, after Olhanense's Manuel Cajuda resigned a few weeks before the end of the 2012–13 Primeira Liga season, Saraiva took on the role of interim manager at the Leões de Olhão, with the primary objective of avoiding relegation. Saraiva would keep Olhanense in the top division on the last day of the season after a goalless draw against Marítimo.
Saraiva was scheduled to manage Olhanense in the 2013–14 Primeira Liga season but decided to leave his post where he would later be replaced by Abel Xavier.
