Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT), Rourkela(Odia: ବିଜୁ ପଟ୍ଟନାୟକ ବୈଷୟିକ ବିଶ୍ଵବିଦ୍ୟାଳୟ) was created by an act of the Odisha state legislature in November 2002.This is the state technical university of Odisha. Almost all the engineering, pharmacy, architecture and most of the colleges offering B.Tech, M.Tech, MBA, MCA, B.Pharm, M.Pharma and B.Arch degree programmes are either constituent or affiliated colleges of BPUT. As of 2015, the university hosts 58,000 students through its 110 constituent and affiliated colleges.

Journey of Biju Patnaik University Of Technology

The Biju Patnaik University of Technology took its birth in the year 2003 with the laying of foundation stone on the auspicious hand of late A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, the Honourable President of India. Riding on the chariot of Public-Private Partnership, the University has grown to-day to a big family of 158 colleges and covers all gamut of technical education systems of the country. To-day it is a proud university who offers Ph.D, Master Degree and Undergraduate Degrees in the areas of engineering, management, pharmacy, architecture, planning and many more. To-day it dreams to introduce B-Voc, M-Voc, and Ph.D-Voc to become an effective partner in the national mission skill development. The unique ICT based training programs of the university to reach the unreached is one of the steps out of many of its initiatives of Digital BPUT. In the changing scenario, the university has adopted a model of PPIP(Public-private-Industry-partnership) to make the education more meaningful and relevant, The Unique student and industry friendly unique curriculum of the university introduced recently will help the students and industry to meet the expectations.

The university believes in “Think Good, Do Good, Be Good “ philosophy and offers education as a service but not as a business. The dynamic model adopted in the university to growing towards its goal for quality in technical education and also provides a true platform to students for quality learning .the big-Dream of the university along with the qualified faculty member, skilled staff and excellent infrastructure make the university the most sought for place of technical education.

    The university is functioning in its new campus located at Chhend Colony, Rourkela situated about 7 km from Rourkela railway station, Odisha, India. The city Rourkela is well connected by road and railway with Bhubaneswar, Sambalpur, Kolkata, Mumbai and other cities of India. Nearest airport is Ranchi & Bhubaneswar.

    When Biju Patnaik University of Technology was established, only five colleges existed Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology, Sarang founded in 1982, Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology, Burla founded in 1956, College of Engineering and Technology, Bhubaneswar founded in 1981, Odisha School of Mining Engineering (renamed as Government College of Engineering), Keonjhar founded in 1956 & Central Institute of Plastic Engineering and Technology, Bhubaneswar founded in 1968 were there, under the state government of Odisha and a few other private engineering and management institutes which were under Sambalpur University, in Odisha. Latter in 2009 three new government colleges were added Parala Maharaja Engineering College, Berhampur, International Institute of Information Technology, Bhubaneswar and Government College of Engineering, Kalahandi.

    The University has more than 110 colleges, both constituent and affiliated, with around 58,000 students. The disciplines include engineering and architecture, business management and hotel management, computer studies and pharmacy. Several of these offer both undergraduate and post graduate studies.

    Chhend Campus, Rourkela

    Rourkela campus is situated in Chhend. Earlier, temporarily it was functioning in UGIT campus, Rourkela. But, now officially Chhend is the main campus. Almost all administrative work, Foundation Day celebration and Convocations are done in Rourkela.

    Biju Patnaik University of Technology has a post graduation institute of its own called as - Center for Advanced Post Graduate Studies. It is situated in southern part of its Chhend campus. It has 17 disciplines:
