The ARCH Academy of Design is a design institute in Jaipur (Rajasthan), India. It was set up in the year 2000 under the management of the Arch Educational Society by its Founder & Director Ms. Archana Surana with a vision to impart specialized education in design that is relevant both industrially & globally.

Contents

The institution has developed as a centre of excellence in learning and innovation over the last fourteen years and has trained more than 4000 professionals and entrepreneurs from across the country. The Academy offers Undergraduate & Postgraduate courses in Fashion Design, Interior Design, Textile Product Design, Craft Product Design, Jewellery Design, Graphic Design, Design Communication, Lifestyle Accessory Design, Design Management, Strategic Management & Leadership, as well as Diploma & Certificate programs in Visual Merchandising & Gemology. The Academy offers hostel accommodation to its outstation students.

Academics

The ARCH Academy has a well integrated interdisciplinary curriculum that infuses an in-depth knowledge of Design, strengthened by understanding through research & hands on experience through practical training. ARCH conducts an All India Entrance Examination for Design (AIEED), for admission to its various Undergraduate and Post Graduate courses. The Academy runs programmes under FIVE main Faculties conducting long term & short term courses with international certification.

    ARCH offers summer and winter courses for International students, presently in subjects such as Pattern Making & Garment Construction for Indian Clothing, Surface Design, Weaving Technology, Block printing; Tie & Dye surface embellishment techniques, and Contemporary Enamelling and Gemmology. These module courses last from 5 to 6 weeks and also include technical and professional training incorporating exposure trips into the old city quarters of Jaipur to interact with, observe, and learn from expert traditional craftsmen in the field.

  • The Academy is ISO 9001:2008 certified for its quality management systems.
  • Arch Academy got affiliated to the University of Rajasthan in 2006. Currently, it offers Undergraduate programs in B.Com, BVA, and BBA & also conducts the Post Graduate Degree Course in Garment Production and Export Management (GPEM).
  • Arch is also affiliated to Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) for B.Sc and M.Sc. degree programs and postgraduate courses in Fashion & Interior Design.
  • ARCH Academy of Design is a premier Pearson Edexcel BTEC centre. It implements nine Edexcel programs alongside its other programs of study. The two most renowned being - The internationally recognized and valued Edexcel BTEC Level 5 Higher National Diploma (HND) & the Edexcel BTEC Level 7 Extended Diploma in Strategic Management & Leadership.
  • ARCH Academy also conducts Pearson ‘Edexcel Assured’ vocational programs and offer short term certificate courses from London Chamber of Commerce and Industries [LCCI]
  • The Academy is the Skill Knowledge Provider under the NVEQF Scheme of AICTE in the applied art sector for the Jewelry Design.
  • International Linkages & Grants

    1. Arch Academy is a regular member of IFFTI (The International Foundation of Fashion Technology Institutes) and benefits from the activities of IFFTI towards providing educational and related facilities for the student community in areas of Design, Technology and Business for Fashion related Industry.
    2. The International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (ICSID), a non-profit organization promoting the profession of industrial design and The Hong Kong Research Institute of Textiles and Apparel (HKRITA) to foster research, development and technology transfer in the textile and clothing industry also support Arch to develop and grow into a sustaining design academy.
  • ARCH and De Montfort University, Leicester, UK has signed a Letter of Cooperation (LOC) for academic, cultural and personnel exchanges. An MoU has also been signed with the University Of Salford, UK, with the envisaged collaborative activity including progression, Staff & Student Exchange programmes, skill transfer programmes and development of Curriculum and pedagogy in Design Education. Textila Gymnasiet in Stockholm, Sweden has renewed its MoU for a further three years.
  • ARCH is in the process of exploring agreements with other top rung UK based universities, institutions and colleges. Pearson's BTEC Progression Routes in the UK include University of Bedfordshire, Heriot-Watt University, Coventry University, St Patrick's College, Middlesex University, Swansea Metropolitan University, Bath Spa University et al. Destinations also include Universities & colleges in the US, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, and South Africa.
  • International Grants

    ARCH has received several International Grants for research towards curriculum development including Faculty exchange programs supporting knowledge dissemination and evolution of innovative industry relevant pedagogy.

  • ARCH in partnership with Perth College, UHI, Scotland, has received the prestigious 45,000 GBP UKIERI (UK India Educational & Research Initiative) Institutional Capacity Building Grant from the British Council.
  • ARCH Academy of Design & Cardonald College, Glasgow (now Glasgow Clyde) have received funding from the British Council, Scotland to develop links in knowledge & understanding of common curriculum areas within Fashion, Textile & Jewelry Design under the Scotland- Jaipur Partnership Development Fund.
  • Previously under the Prime Minister’s Initiative for International Education (PMI2) of the British Council, ARCH in partnership with Doncaster College, UK, has received funding for Staff Exchange and skill transfer Programmes between the two institutions.
  • Industry and Government Linkages

    ARCH is associated with a number of Government organizations which include: Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Government of India, Development Commissioner Handicrafts (DCH), Ministry of Textile, Govt. of India Department of Science & Technology, DST, Govt. of India Rural Non Farm Development Agency (RUDA), Government of Rajasthan, Rajasthan Mission On Livelihood (RMOL), Entrepreneurship Management Institute (EMI), Govt. of Rajasthan

  • ARCH is also actively associated the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), The Indus Entrepreneurs (TIE), FICCI Ladies Organization (FLO) and FORHEX. These bodies have assisted the ARCH faculty and students in areas of mentoring and networking.
  • The Arch Academy is conducting Skills Up gradation Programmes for artisans and the underprivileged in Fashion Accessories under the HRD Scheme of the Development Commissioner Handicrafts (DCH), Ministry of Textiles (Government of India).
  • ARCH is the official Consultant Designer for the entire range of Uniforms for the Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation.
  • ARCH is empanelled with the National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad and Micro Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME) to conduct the DESIGN CLINIC SCHEME for the Jewellery Cluster in Jaipur.
  • Through the JJADE project funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and the UPLIFT project of the DELL Foundation through Access Development Services, ARCH is contributing to the up gradation of skills of Jewellery artisans.
  • ARCH recently presented a research proposal “Innovation in Development of Indigenous Eco Crafts for High Fashion Global markets” on reviving the indigenous craft of traditional Natural dyes and Sanganeri block printing at the IFFTI - London College of Fashion Colloquia 2013, in the UK.
  • In house Magazine – ‘Backstitch’

    ‘Backstitch’ is the monthly official design publication of the ARCH Academy of Design. Besides regular features like perspectives on design, crafts, technology, it presents a variety of viewpoints of important practitioners & opinion makers in the Creative Industry.

    Campus Life

    The ARCH Academy of Design also has a strong international representation, with students from several countries like Sweden, Spain, Kuwait, the United Kingdom, the USA, Nepal, Iran, Canada, Korea, Japan, and Dubai etc. who have, at one time or the other, chosen to study at the institution. ARCH students choose from many student activities including clubs, sports, films, plays, lectures, gallery openings, exhibitions and concerts. The different clubs run by students at the institution are Cultural Club, Dramatics Club, Movie Club, Sports Club, Literary Club, E-Club (Entrepreneurship Club) and the Alumni Club.

    ARCH has its alliances with the Rotaract Club, the Red Ribbon Club, NEN (National Entrepreneurship Network), TIE (The Indus Entrepreneurs), AIESEC (an international youth organization) and YUVA Unstoppable. While the Rotaract Club and the Red Ribbon Club foster the development of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) needs, NEN assists in the development of entrepreneurial skills and mentoring, and AIESEC supports global networking and youth exchange programs. Students have access to a wide range of counselling and training oriented programs at ARCH, to develop their entrepreneurial skills.

    Arch Academy graduates have established themselves as designers and entrepreneurs in Jaipur and across the country. They are working with leading brands and designers like Rocky S, Abu Jaani Sandeep Khosla, Manoviraj Ghosla, Amrapali Jewels, Geetanjali Jewellery Pvt Ltd, Orra Diamonds, Mayur Suiting, Kalideo Interiors, Design Inc, Muse Bangalore etc. to name a few.

    Awards & Recognition

    Laurel lists on national and international level competitions are unending. Students have participated in Tahitian Pearl Competition, the Pearl Essence Design Competition, the World Gold Council-Auditions, the IIGJ-Visions, the Society Interiors Awards, Fashion Design Awards India, International Photography Competition etc. and won many prestigious awards.
