Synopsis
Jane Steiner (Greta Scacchi) is an actress on the verge of giving up on her unfulfilling career. She is offered a small part in an American film set in the 1950s, about Cesare Pavese. Steve Elliot (Peter Coyote) is playing the lead. Steve is a charming American movie star who is passionate about the writer he is playing although his work is unknown in the United States. He is married to Susan (Jamie Lee Curtis) who is at home in New York City, but falls in love with his co-star, Jane on the set.
Jane portrays Gabriella, the love interest of Pavese shortly before his suicide. Upon encountering Steve, Jane leaves her lover and friend (Vincent Lindon). The narrative unfolds from Jane's perspective, delving into the fantasies, fervors, and conflicts involved in filmmaking, along with her evolution from an actress to a writer. This arc reflects Kurys' personal journey in the industry.
